Tony, the ice caps have melted and re-froze many times. Check it out.
The global temperature change is about 1 degree every 100 years. It is difficult to predict actual effects with something happening this slow. Models vary widely. Some say now. Some say a long way out.

Scientist can't agree.
In the 70's they predicted a return of the Ice Age.
Now 30 years later they say they they wrong about that.
We just need to conserve when we can and keep our world clean.
We all should do our best to preserve and beautify
our surroundings and be realistic and not let Al Gore and the likes of him lead us around by a ring in our nose.
They want to close the fossil fuel industry'
The mining industry supplies 50% of the power to our nation.
With out it we couldn't turn on our lights.
We couldn't drive a car, because it takes coal to make the steel to manufacture the car in the first place.
This list goes on and on.
We supply coal to run Power Plants. It is the cheapest and safest form of electrical power.
We supply the coal to japan to make their steel to build automobiles.
We don't need Al Gore to go into the schools scaring our kids to death.
We should be the ones to teach our kids to conserve.
Very good question as long as we use our wisdom and common sense.

To tie in with Gabys post above, it's actually the Artic ice that is melting, not the Antartic ice. The ice sheet in the Antartic region is actually increasing in size and thickness. The ice is moving from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere.

It's already is showing signs. The ice caps in Antartica are melting and is a major threat to us. That is why we shouldn't be driving these SUVs and using gasoline. There is so many different ways to run cars but the oil companies keep the people from knowing and are someday going to kill us......

It came around the corner ages ago
150.000 people die every year due to global warming
great parts of the North Pole Green land ,and mountain Glaziers ,have melted ,thousands of hectares of the permafrost of the tundras has gone .
In 2003
3500 people died in Europe because of Global Warming
Mexico has terrible floods ,due to excessive evaporations on the seas cause great rains.
In China two mayor desserts are merging .900 villages lie buried beneath the sands of the dust storms.
the Sahara is growing by 7 miles a year .
there are vast mass extinctions at microscopic levels of species of microbes ,that affect everything that follows on the food chains ,not beiong in to our dimensional world,
3000 animals have gone extinct in the last 50 years ,a great part of that due to the colapse of food chains and loss of habitat .
And you are asking when it is coming ,don´t worry it will be in your street soon ,when the price of food and drinks hit the roof .
Farming is being hit everywhere ,
one degree rise in temperature already means 10% crop loss and the world is facing a global water shortage of potable water .
