My wife and I were out for a drive today in her car and on a whim, we decided to pull into a dealership and look at cars. The salesman was a great talker and before I knew it, I was signing papers. He gave me a generous offer on my trade-in after he asked me two questions on the interior and exterior of the trade in. He didn't care that the vehicle was not with me, and got me approved, we signed all the papers, and they gave me the keys. They congratulated me and said the vehicle is yours. I then went home, got the trade-in and brought it back to them. It was pouring down rain so they only got the mileage of the vehicle, put its tag on my new car and sent me on my merry way. Now here is the biggie. They never drove it or checked it out. What happens if they find something wrong with it? Am I still ok? I'm probably just being paranoid, but I love my new car and don't wish to lose it. And yes, I answered all their questions honestly, but they never asked about the motor or tranny.

I wouldn't worry about your trade-in. Depending on the year of the car, they will either put it on the lot or wholesale it. either way, whatever is wrong with the car they can fix dirt cheap. you're safe. sleep well.
enjoy your new car!!

The last vehicle we used as a trade-in was a piece of junk. We told them we didn't even know if it would make it back to the dealership, they didn't care, sight unseen, they signed the papers, we signed the papers, took our new truck home, was returning to bring them the trade-in and less than a mile from the dealer, the motor blew. Hubby pretty much coasted it into the lot. They still took it. I really dont think you get as much as you think for a trade in anyway, they have ways of making it sound really good, but if you sit and figure it all out, its not that great a deal, and besides that car dealers have a certain amount they can "play" with in the new car price. I would say you are good to go. Enjoy your new car...

You're probably ok. The dealership is a business, and they specialize in the sale and service of cars. They are thus held to a very high standard when it comes to checking on the condition of cars for trade-in. Unless you actually lied to the dealership when you signed your papers, any court will likely hold them to the trade-in and purchase contract.

Legally dealers have 30 days to send you a title after you purchase a vehicle. So I really don't understand your problem. Why did you give the car back? Were you denied financing? Most all purchase agreements state that down payments are actually partial payments and are not refundable, so you really need to give the dealer more time before you get your panties in a wad. Good luck.

was the vehicle you traded in paid for or did you owe money on it? that's my first question - if it was a bucket, they probably left themselves some room in case the car came back worse than expected - if you owe money on the vehicle and the vehicle appraises for less money, they will definitely call you and tell you that the vehicle appraised for less and try to rewrite your contract - if the vehicle is found to have any frame damage or repainting from prior accidents you can expect a call - the dealer will have you sign something on "blind" trades saying that the vehicle is an estimate and is subject to change upon appraisal - it is not a done deal until you receive your plates and registration on the new car - until then, cross your fingers

Rest at ease. They dont want the new car back,( it lost at least $3000 as soon as you drove it off the lot.) They will sell your car to a wholesaler and wont lose a dime on it. If it is in great shape, they will sell it for about 15% over what they SAID they gave you for it. Check your contract abd see what they charged you for that makes no sense@ dealer prep, delivery cost, ETC

My guess is that they cleaned your clock so badly on the car that they sold you that they really don't care what your trade is worth. The deal is done at this point so there's no turning back. For either of you...

As long as you make your payments on time and keep insurance and license current on the car you are fine. Quit worrying. Life has enough stress without adding more. Enjoy your new car.

Not an issue. They took it.
They will just sell it at auction and they figured that into the price of what they charged you for the car.
Sleep soundly!
