Constantly serving the Lord, Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead is real saint [ santha sadaiva hrdeyashu vilokayanti - Brahma Samhita]. Being a servant of the Supreme Lord is real fame.
Just like Arjuna's fame and power was present until Krishna stayed with him.

Fame is something that comes to some coz of their Deeds... n depends on other's love n respect also...
reason can be: we desired it, or we didn't, n if fame comes to some even if they didnot desire it, they are truely great!!
Actually when a true saint tries to spread the true message of spirituality, of course he expects nothing in return. We realise that he is Genuine n ask for his blessings...
Also, If they don't become famous then many people will not be able to get his message... so i think the reason for 'fame' is different here, it's not for popularity, it is for the service of Lord through the service of people... n i m talking ONLY about the true Gurus.
Just like my Sai Baba, he never asked for any fame, but there were many fortunate people who were able to get His darshan.
Anyway, fame should not be the criteria of judging a True Saint, coz all true saints preach the same, their way of preaching might be different.

Neither one of them is better than the other one, in my opinion. Let me explain.
The true saint with the fame could be one who only wanted to share what he has learnt and gone through with the whole world without the want to be recognized for his deeds. But unconditionally, the media steps in between and disturbs that saint's life. But the fameless true saint could either be someone who :-
1. has learnt and experienced things only for personal gratification, without the want to share anything, or;
2. does want to share everything via books and tutorials but not want any kind of media to come near to him. His heart could be so pure that he is sacrificing himself far off away from human sight. He is duly following the path of self-realisation and will let his death (mahasamadhi) as a testimony of what he has been going through during his journey here.
For these saints, fame is merely a petty thing which has no essence compared to the true aim of life. If you are famous, you are happy but for a definite period of time. Nothing good lasts permanently here. A saying goes like this : Happiness and sorrow are next door neighbours!

True saints do not go after fame. Fame follows them. Relinquishing all desires in life makes one a saint.

A fameless true saint is as revered and possessing as much knowledge as true Saint with fame. The only drawback with the former is that his wisdom will die with him and will not be able to benefit the society.

Fameless or fame does not matter. One who does good deeds and explain spirtual matters linking with life. Those who dwells on God in all his deeds and bring reformation in human being from bad influence. True saint is one who enlightens people towards by good deeds. Saintly person always dwells at length how puranas are applicable to our lives. Saintly persons are not at all concerned about fame. They stand among the human being with their good deeds. They are paragaons of good thoughts and behaviour.

One who aspires for fame and does something to show off and earn fame and show of his atainments snd knowlede in divinity for the sake of money is on his way to the hell.
Any one who dose anything with attachment for the fruit of his action is selfish and not a noble soul.Any action done by any one without any attachement for its fruit is like a sacred offering , a sacrifice to the god .He is the one who is a real saint .the oines we hasee visiting places giving advertisements inthe ppress and through the posters are frauds who are after making money and enjoying the royal comforts of life at the cost of other people in distress .Beware of them.

if they're really a saint then i don't think it would matter in god's eyes if they were famous or not... unless they let the fame go to their heads, and became full of pride and stuff, in which case the fameless saint would be better because pride is one of the 7 deadly sins.

'Make me an instrument of peace
where there is hatred let me sow love.'
are his words found in most of the cathedrals around the world and even in UN bldg.
