Because I studied many different religions and decided that I believed that Buddhism was the best path for me. It openly encourages questioning all the beliefs of Buddhism and taking only what is helpful to you, discarding that which you find is not truthful or harmful. It also encourages the study of and appreciation for other religions. It's main belief is ahimsa- harm no other sentient beings. That was enough to convert me. Also, I never believed in the spiteful, jealous and violent God of the Old Testament. The main thing that keeps me from reverting back to Christianity is seeing how angry and judgmental many of the fundamentalists act.

I couldn't care less about your 10 points, so put that dangling carrot away.

I have been an atheist all my life. My family believed in God but did not push any of it down my throat. When I was 7, I went to a Bible class, during which I asked too many questions and was pulled out of the class. By 14 I was calling myself an atheist. I always had been one, just didn't know there was an actual word for it until then.

Am 34 now, and am not at all "astray" but right where I want to be.

Well, I don't think I really was anything before being an atheist as I am now, but from my point of view, there is more proof against the existence of god than there is for it.

It just seems impossible that the first thing this god created in our world is the things in the story of the Garden of Eden. There's evidence of the Garden of Eden existing, but at the same time, existence before the Garden of Eden. It's undeniable that the Garden of Eden was not the beginning of all existence in our universe thus leaving a huge blow in the credibility of the Bible. There are tons of other examples, but I think this is one of the most important ones.

The Bible is historically accurate in certain elements, no doubt about that, but it's not even close to being 100% accurate. Since it's not credible enough to be a reliable source of information, I only believe parts of it that have actually been proven in an undeniable way. I also believe some of the moral ideas such as 6 of the 10 commandments which seems to me to be a complete idiot's guide to society.

I'm only atheist because I find it the most logical choice at the moment, but if I'm presented with an undeniable proof that this god does exist, I will have no choice but to convert.

I was a devout baptist christian and an overachiever in everything I do. I wanted to be a SUPER christian and do everything just right plus some. Therefore I needed to find out exactly what God wanted of me. I asked a lot of questions and did a lot of reading and do you know what I found out...? It seemed that people were just making up answers as they went along. They didn't really know what god wanted. And all this time I had been doing everything just as they had said, sacrificing my social life, giving up music, preaching to all of my friends and family. I felt totally scammed.

So then I read a story in the bible about a man and a golden fleece. The man believed god wanted him to go on a journey but wasn't sure. So he tested god. I figured I could do the same thing if the guy in the bible did it, I wanted to know if god wanted me to continue sacrificing my happiness in his name. I tested god in a similar way and it was a complete disaster. Either god didn't hear me or he definetly didn't want me to continue the way I was going.

So I decided he probably didn't exist. Then something amazing happened. I saw everything differently. Everything I knew about I had had a religious explanation for, now I had to form a whole new belief system, a new understanding of everything around me. Especially religion. I took mythology classes and comparative religion classes and philosophy classes and history classes and I realized that religion has evolved out of need. It is possible for humans to have just invented it out of necessity.

Now I'm a die-hard athiest. I feel happy and enlightened because I learn the real reasons why things are the way they are instead of attributing it all to god. The world is a much more interesting place...

Because I got tired of listening to the same close minded message being pounded into my head since I was a little kid.
Taught to fight and die for a book thats main character died over 400 years before it was written just got stupid because none of the crap in the bible was writtin directly from jesus or his followers so what you end up with is something that resembles the telephone game. Alot of the morals in the book are good for a person to have to make his way in society as a good person but the rest is non sence that we're forced to believe. One of the big things I tried to follow was how the bible says not to judge others which most all of the people I know who bash gays, non believers and others that aren't the same as them are religous people. Also another big thing I began to notice was that through most of time itself just about every war in some way was started in the name of the almighty (any god/goddess) but none have been started in the name of satan or any other dark lord. Also wether people like to admit it or not evolution does exist and there's more than enough scientific proof to prove it. Most religous types are afraid of change (which will be the unraveling of america)and more importantly afraid to follow their hearts out of fear that they will be cast into hell. I gave up religion and no longer believe in heaven/hell. I live my life to it's fullest each and everyday. I love my friends, family and work real hard at being a great father to my child. I am an outstanding citizen and I would give the shirt off of my back to a stranger but because I don't "believe" I'm mostly looked down on by people that shouldn't have to privaledge of breathing. Funny how things work out

Religion is a man-made thing. Sorry, didn't mean to be gender biased. Religion is created by people. The majority of people believe in their religion because their parents taught them that that was the way to believe. I won't necessarily say there is no higher power. But all these separate religions, eh, it's just for people to feel better about themselves. There has been so much corruption in the Catholic church over the ages, I can't believe it still exists. I tend to think I am a pretty logical person. Until the day that God or whoever comes to me and says, "Hey, here I am. I'm real and you didn't believe and now you're fuc&ed.", I will continue to be skeptical. If anyone could show me one example of God's existence, besides their proselytizing, maybe that would help. Just one, tangible, real example. But nope, nothing. The Virgin Mary's face in a piece of toast doesn't count.

I became a atheist because I have yet to find a religion that I really believe in. But I won't go as far as to say there is no God. One thing is for sure, I certainly don't believe in Jehovah's and the Big Bang deal. (Or Scientology, lol.) However I will say one thing that keeps me thinking, how is anything anything without force? We can't just simply be here.

I too reliazed the fairytale was over when I was about 9. I shouted out how I figured this out in the middle of church. But the real reason is that, I myself, and figured out that I was strong enough to realize that I didn't need something to back myself up. I just needed to beleive in myselft, and everything was going to be fine.

Lol, and also, I can't beleive anything that isn't proved. (Like how Macs are better than Windows.)

I used to be an atheist before I became a believer. I would have to say it was pride. I grew up hearing about God from my grandma, but eventually I just became proud of myself and the world. I thought it was better than the idea of God and I traded in those great teachings for darkness.

In college, those with sturdy intelligence asked sturdy questions i could no longer answer. 2. human beings in my church believed issues that have been of course nonsensical (like "Jesus is God" yet he prayed - to himself? - and became sacrificed... to himself?). 3. I have been given the experience that there have been considerable translation problems with the Bible, yet that i might probable by no potential study the actuality approximately that. 4. I did study greater approximately it, chanced on lots of translation issues, and a sparkling indoctrination schedule grew to become obvious - that the Bible became translated into English the way it became to help what human beings already believed. 5. the main godly human beings I knew had inexplicably undesirable issues take place to them. 6. The greater I studied the Bible, the greater contradictions and errors I observed interior what became meant to be the harmonized, inerrant "word of God." i got here upon that some regularly occurring doctrines i became raised on have been purely fake, and that government interior the church homes I were with did no longer be conscious of the background of the Bible's creation or of pertinent activities that got here about interior the 1st Century, or chosen to stay away from revealing them or discussing them. 7. different existence studies printed how ignorant, willfully ignorant, deceptive and fraudulent such various human beings are, and that this did no longer exclude the religious/religious/believers. Human nature grew to become greater obvious and that i began out to understand what each and every physique's deal somewhat is. 8. After dropping the Bible as a solid source of counsel, bit with the aid of bit (I held onto the Gospels as long as i might desire to, yet even they did no longer delay), I examined my own studies, my perceptions, my innovations, and how I reached my conclusions approximately "God." i chanced on that there became no longer something there that somewhat supported the existence of an all-effective, all-understanding, all-loving, omnipresent supernatural god. 9. Having considered 2 to in all threat 5 or greater diverse shows of "God" interior the Bible, I grew to become confident that the Christian god(s) is (are) no longer authentic. with the aid of fact the word "theos" has probable greater of a correlation with the Christian god(s) than something, i'm probable greater of an anti-theist in this sense (quite than an atheist), with the aid of fact i think that Christian theism is somewhat an difficult hoax it relatively is deceiving billions, nevertheless maximum persons look to misconceive what this suggests.
