In a hot market it wouldn't be good but most times it would be in a cold market it might be a top seller.
The agent gets 1/4 of the commission for selling homes if he is selling somewhere that homes cost 100K the commission is 6K and he would get 1,500 so would need to sell 2-3 to clear 2,000 to 3,000 after selling cost. The selling agent pays to rent desk space, have listings and drive people around so they are spending money if they sell or not.
A good agent selling high end homes may only sell a few a year because the homes that cost millions are harder to sell.

somewhat depends on the value of the houses, but 1/mo is not really good for anything under $250k, but typical of many a part time realtor after their first few months to a year.
the problem is that there is 80% turn over every 2 years in RE agents, mostly because it's hard to live on $3000/mo before expenses of cards, signs, gas, print advertising, Internet, broker fees, networking, etc...
If you want to be a realtor, I'd be happy to give you unbiased input on the career (I'm not a realtor, but work with several). Just shoot me an email.
If you are looking to hire one, don't hire a friend just for friend's sake. There is too much at risk to trust your property and largest investment to someone without much experience or devotion to their craft. Look for a Million $ Producer / Club / Roundtable person.
