and now I read that this is part of her family thing, bringing me food. I want to be polite to the cat, should I eat the mouse? Is it impolite to decline her gifts?

I don't believe any response is necessary. They're just pleased to provide so well.

My three bring me gifts all the time. The good news is, the gifts are stuffed. One has a plush snake she carries upstairs and down. Another has what could be a plush tick or spider or octopus. The third hides her mice under the closet doors. She doesn't share.

One of the reasons cats bring you "gifts" is to train you. Mother cats do this to teach their kittens hunting skills. You should be flattered, your cat sees you as a cat. He/She is concerned because you don't seem to have the proper survival skills. If you can stomach doing it, bat the thing around a little. If not, distract your cat with a treat or some string and throw the thing out.

no don't eat the stuff, the cat is looking for your approval. Just pet the cat tell it good kitty, and when it isn't looking throw it away. my cat use to do the same thing when he was younger. Now he is 12 and knows he has a home so I guess he isn't sweating it any more(ha/ha) But he did this every time we moved to a new place before he got to old to care.

Your cat really likes you! But no, you don't have to consume her "tasty offerings"- to prove it. Just give her some attention & a "cuddle" once in awhile, -and who knows?- The NEXT thing she brings back, MAY be the girl of your dreams! Stranger things have happened! :)

Well, I wouldn't really eat the mouse. But I would maybe hang it up on my door to ward off Jehovah's Witnesses. Or you can get them all stuffed and be the king of mice.

Just pet her & thank her, then when she is not looking, throw it out! Also,if it doesn't gross you out, they like to play with you, with the object.Tossing,etc...They get tired, walk away & you disposeof it.
