Well, isn't it great that you are on Y/A where you can definitely get a variety of opinions as opposed to the normal slant you get on mainstream publications and newspapers.

What are you saying, that there is never a war that we, as Americans, should be proud to serve in? Or is it just this particular military operation that you don't like?
When you back up and look at the forces in play back in 2003, it is quite easy to understand that we were eventually going to go in to Iraq one day to enforce the UN resolutions. Based on interpretations of the intelligence at the time, the threat of WMD's and ties to terrorists simply accelerated the schedule. And, yes, I am proud that we stood up to Saddam and followed through on what the UN had originally authorized, using force if necessary to insure that Saddam was following the terms of the cease fire after the first gulf war.

No no, you are in the 18th century at the height of anglo nationalistic pride and militant imperialism. Geesh wake up!

Really though, you need to focus on opening your mind. People come in all shapes, views, sizes, flavors, colors, etc. It's called diversity. Respect it and appreciate it. Learn from others and try their perspectives on for size... you can only gain wisdom from doing so.
Why criticize as if you are worthy of judgment? Who are you? You only diminish any importance or significance you had when you start pretending you're on a pedestal to preach to others. People can't open their minds to a closed-one.
Please, grow up and acquire a little maturity. Trust me, it's worth it.

***WICHIATOR1 I know what anglo means; I meant English. Not caucasian. England, 18th century, colonization... ring a bell??

No one is proud of there soldiers going to war with the possibility of them not coming home. We as Americans would love peace, but as a democracy we cannot be stupid and believe that peace can be accomplish by hope and faith, when the process of becoming a democracy was violent, brutal, but necessary because it was the right thing to do. What the nation is proud of is their soldiers who are willing to do what every it takes to keep us safe, and are proud of what there soldiers represent. They represent freedom and the respond to hostile aggression by any nation at any given moment. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OWER TROOPS.

I don't know anybody who really wants to go to war, especially veterans. On the other hand, a lot of people felt we were justified in the action, and once the decision is made, we have an obligation to do our best. To do otherwise would be either to deny our democratic principles or simply be immoral.

Why don't you rewrite your question to "I can't believe I'm talking to people that are proud of their country defending the lives of others and freeing those being oppressed."

That is a narrow description of it. I am proud of a country and people who take a stand against anybody/country that threatens, and has the means to inflict harm on our country.

You are in the 21st century. I'm so glad that you realized that.

The question is, who is more stupid? You for talking to people who disagree with you, or those that disagree with you?

Get over your ideals. War is human nature. Patriotism is natural.
