According to a newspaper article, Harlem has undergone a transformation, due to new stores: Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, iHop, clothing stores, banks, etc.

The best way to determine if an area is for you is to see it at various times. Morning, noon, late afternoon, night, late night, etc. If you know someone that lives in Harlem, ask them to give you a tour of the neighborhood that interests you.

Honestly anywhere you live is dangerous.....anything can happen to you at any given time......and in NYC you don't have to be in any particular place for something to happen......Harlem is up and coming...it's slowly being re- gentrified, and if you knew for sure you'd also know that the area you're looking into is right smackdab in the middle of a housing Project (No Bueno).....I suggest you go futher uptown and to the West.

Its not to bad, and getting better. Like I stated in a previous answer, you can get too and from work, but like alot of areas in the city, you will not want to walk around alone at night. It starts getting dangerous in the 80's somewhere, but then again people get rubbed and killed in gramercy. If you're that concerned, then dont take it. But if if its affordable, take it but keep looking.
