They don't. They have to trust on what is said/written in a Jewish history book.

Human beings believe what is taught to them, it is the only way we learn, grow and evolve. The bible was written by man, apparent accounts of actual happenings. Faith is what keeps spirituality alive. After an event transpires it becomes history and history is notated in scriptures. No one really knows for certain Christ was ever on this earth, that he was ever the messiah or died on a cross and rose from the dead. The bible is hundreds of stories that could be true or could be fiction but either way it is faith, without faith in something what do we have?
Personally I am not a Christian but I understand how important it is to have faith and hope, without how do we go on living?

I thought about this today believe it or not. Someone on the radio was talking about Islam and referred to the date of it's origin as sometime in 7th century AD. That very date, AD, refers to "after death" of Jesus. That is a pretty powerful indication that not only was Jesus a real person, but both his birth (BC) and death (AD) have numbered the centuries.
For decades, it has been the global standard, recognized by international institutions such as the United Nations and the Universal Postal Union. This is due to the prevalence of Christianity in the Western world and the great influence of the Western world on science, technology and commerce.
What would make you think that he wasn't ever alive? Why would you prefer to believe that?

There's more evidence for the existence of Jesus Christ as a person in history than any other person of his time period and for centuries before and after. We're more sure that Jesus existed than we are that Pontius Pilate or Caiphas existed.
With respect to Creationism, you question how Christians can know how things began because they weren't there, yet you cite "basically every living geologist" as being right about origins without wondering how they could know since THEY weren't there either.

It was Jesus who promised those who trusted Him the Holy Spirit. And that is how we know about the fact of Jesus. If you aren't sure where I get that, read John 16 ( if you really want to know).
It was reported by some Christians that Jesus promised the Holy Spirit. And some of us Christians have proof of that!
Did I say, "Holy Spirit, come into my body?" No. It was a part of the 'Born Again' (the event, not the Born Again movement) experience.
I can claim this fact all day and not one person has to believe it. But it did happen to me. God keeps His proof on an individual basis right now. And I am one who experienced it.
Why? Because I am so f'ing good? No. But because I trusted Him and He keeps His promises. God was telling us the whole time in the Bible that He alone is trustworthy, and I believed Him.
So the reason why I know that Jesus is true is because He proved His promises to me when I trusted Him.

Witnesses...and they wrote letters about it that were saved and later put together in a book called the Bible (which means book, I think). Also they talked about Him and every generation passed down stories about Him. Just like today when the space shuttle went up. I wasn't there...but they told us about it on tv and the newspapers and computer etc. There were witnesses there (news people etc.) and we also heard it from friends etc. They talked about what happened in 1986 when the space shuttle exploded. If you weren't born then...some witnesses or people who saw it on tv would tell you about it...and some day you would tell your children and grandchildren etc. They would believe it because there were witnesses. That's about the best I can do in trying to explain it.

fair question. The primary Roman historian of that time, Josephus, makes no reference to Jesus. There is little outside the Bible to suggest that Jesus ever existed.
But the Bible is an historic document, too. The places, currency, and many other details in it have proven to be historically accurate. Moreover, the epistles of Paul, Timothy, John and Peter are very consistent in their description of Jesus, are believed to be, in some cases, eyewitness accounts, and they describe a fairly consistent pattern of persecution directed at early Christians.
Early Christians described in the New Testement, some of whom are believed to be eyewitnesses to Jesus' ministry, were tortured, beaten, imprisoned and killed in many ingenious ways---upside-down crucifixion, bludgened with rocks, stabbed, etc. I cannot imagine that people would be calling themselves eyewitnesses to Jesus and allowing themselves to be persecuted in these ways for a lie. Thus, the best historical evidence we have to the life of Jesus is the letters, and behavior, of those who followed Him and witnessed His life, death, and resurrection.

And then how can you? But your points don't go together to well, Jesus Christ was not born at the beginning of the earth, either, ( as you put it)
But there is far to much history as to Jesus being a real person to not accept that he was. Even those that are not Christian agree that Jesus lived and died as told in the Bible.
The only question is, was he the son of God. Muslims, Jews, Hindus, and most all other religions agree that Jesus lived. They just don't believe he was the son of God, as Christians do.
Btw, most atheists would not argue that Jesus was a real person either.

I wasn't there when almost any historical person was born. How do I know that Lincoln, Mary Queen of Scots, Charles Darwin, or any other person was actually alive? Historical accounts and faith. 2000 years after you die, how will anyone know that you had been actually alive?
