It can get "stale", and also subtly interact with the plastic bottle over time.

water never expires. The date on bottled water is really the data the packaging expires. that is the bottler will no longer guarantee the purity of the water.

Lol one of the better question's i've seen this week, I think the guy who answered first got it right. Logically there is no other explanation, if the bottle is airtight then the water has no other influence in it other than the air in it and the plastic... so maybe the air has some reaction but i think its the plastic.

water doesnt expire unless its left in 100 degree weatherfor like 5 days then you'll see little green particals! ewwwww! its pretty gross!
