Ice can become bad tasting if your freezer is smelly. But if your freezer is clean it should be fine. I'm still working on a bag from last October with no complaints.

Yeah ice can get freezer burn unless you have a freezer that keeps 100% of the humidity out. Thats only possible if you never open the freezer or if the ice is wrapped air tight.

The humidity will stick to it and it will cause freezer burn, usually in a couple weeks, or less. Frozen air tight meat can last alot longer years but ice is not air tight, it goes in weeks.

Gross reading some of these responses. Maybe my taste buds are ultra sensitive. I can go to somebodys house and say your ice is gross. And they think its fine. Maybe its me.

But its cheap.

**** UPDATE FOR YANA *****

Not sure where you went to school but I would demand a refund. What are you talking about? That makes no sense.

Freezer burn (alternately spelled freezerburn) is a condition that occurs when frozen food has been damaged by ice crystals, due to air reaching the food. It is generally induced by substandard (non-airtight) packaging.

Freezer burn is based on the fundamental physics of sublimation. Water evaporates at all temperatures, even from what appears to be solid ice. That is why ice cubes shrink in your freezer and in fact will eventually disappear.

It will tend to evaporate when your fridge does its defrosts cycle. it will evaporate overtime just because frozen air is actually dry.
The worst thing though is that it picks up the smells of everything else in the freezer section. So for what it costs, if it is just Ice Trays dump them out and refreeze them now and then. If it is tightly sealed like in plastic bags it is good for a very long time. Well over a year, but some scents still move through the plastic. This means that you can get plastic tasting ice. (Yum?)
One other thing that happens is that some gasses like O2 and CO2 evaporate out of the ice and leave it flat tasting. This is most noticeable in ice trays.

I guess that is about all I know.

umm... no but if you just leave it in the tray for ages it can get the taste of other stuff in the freezer or the chemical taste from the defrost.

freezer burn doesn't apply to frozen liquid stuff only meat and other foods

Just boil it and refreeze it. Water is pretty neat in that way.
