i have 4 days till my due date and i'm really anxious about how it feels like and how it starts. does it just all of a sudden starts hurting? This is my first pregnancy so i don't know how it's like. lately i've been getting lots of painless contractions. and this morning i had contractions with cramps. but i went back to sleep and when i got up, it went away. the whole day today, my inner thighs been aching.. any chance that labor's coming?.. soon...

many people ask me if i'm scared, but i always answer no because i've never experienced it and don't know how it's like. they tell me that its the worse pain i will ever feel but will soon forget about it.. some tell me that it feels like menstrual cramps x 100.. some say it's like getting your apendix taken out.. and some dont know how to explain it.. so.. from experiences.. how does it start and for you... how did your contractions feel like?

Don't be scared by others experiences at all. Labour (unless you are induced) starts off gradual, like period cramps at first, then slowly getting more intense; like someone is squeezing a vice around your pelvis and they get regular and when you can't talk or laugh when one hits, you know you are in established labour. When it comes to pushing and crowning of the head, its a whole nother story! For me that was the worst part with delivery as it feels like a red hot, searing, burning pain (almost like you are being branded like a cow!) And right when you are at 8-10cms usually the contractions step up a notch and thats when you hear about the women screaming!

At the end of the day though, its only one day out of your whole life so whats a bit of pain if you get such an awesome end to it?!

I was ready for more right after both my births. I only had one shot of pethedine at about 7cm with both births which helped me get my breath for about 1/2 an hour and dilate the rest of the way and then bam it was into delivery!

Best days of my life and most liberating experiences I will ever have!

Good luck, it so totally hurts but is more than worth it!

My contractions started in the middle of my belly and went all the way to my back. I tell you though my belly did not hurt nearly as bad as my back. It really wasn't pain though it was more like how you get when it is achy and you can't stand to sit, bend or stand. Kind of tingling feeling too. I only got dilated to 1 1/2 and that was after they broke my water so they did a c-section. So, I don't know anymore of pains other than what I told ya. Good luck hope it helped a little. Everyone is different so you may go really fast and not endure a lot of pain. I hope so! Good luck! and CONGRATS!

I remember them similar to the most horrific diarrhea cramps I had ever experienced except way worse. Imagine over dosing on ex-lax and that is a mild version of labor cramps. Take a severe period and multiply that by uhhhhhh.... say 100,000? Yeah! That might be right. Though in the very, very beginning, before cramping even began I simply felt funny, like maybe I had a mild flu coming on. I just felt really quiet and like I wanted to go lay down and rest. I felt a slight chill to me and wanted to just put some jammies on and cuddle with a big pillow. When I told my mom that she said, "Uh oh!" She knew before I did that it was simply a matter of hours from that point. :)

To me it felt like my stomach had a band around it that was constricting and then loosening back up. I hope you've been walking. That really gets the muscles prepared. I told myself to envision the worst possible pain I could feel when I got to the delivery part. That way, I didn't need an epidural either time. The actual pain was nowhere near what I imagined.

I agree that contractions feel like menstrual cramps but I would say x 1,000. I have had one natural and one with an epi. And honestly, I would go natural anytime, its true you forget all about the pain when that beautiful baby arrives!!!!!! Plus, you will bounce back a hole lot quicker. Good Luck.

Be careful. My contractions with my daughter did not hurt. They felt like braxton hicks. (my stomach just tightened) We timed them and when they were 6 min. apart my husband took me to the hospital, got a epidural and had my daughter 3 hours later. I would not have gone the hospital but a friend of mine told me a week before I had my daughter that they don't hurt for everyone. I would of had her at home!!

With my son they felt like regular menstrual cramps that got stronger and stronger.

Don't be afraid of the epidural...I had one with both of my kids and pushed for 20 min. with both. It's just different for everyone but it does not mean you will defiantly have a longer labor.

When they say "you know", let me tell you, YOU KNOW! I just had my first and i thought i was in labor a few times.... oh no, it is such a strong distinct feeling that takes your breath away. It is like 100x cramps, and it is measurable. Dont be afraid, it is SOOO worth it!

you wont have to worry about the painful ones if you get an epi.

but if you dont, yea ... it's PAINFUL. Tightning -- to the point of screaming!!

You better not answer this if you had an epi!!!!
