I want to refer you to a book about psychiatry written by a psychiatrist in which she states that most doctors (and psychiatrists are Md's.) resent their patients. Why?, simply because they make difficult work for them.

Why would they hate their patients? They make their living off their patients and they probably make some side money off of the drugs that they push.
I think that many of them just suffer from stress, which probably also accounts for a high divorce rate among psychiatrists. If they really hated their job, then they would find something else to do.

I love this question! I think that it all depends... psychiatrists are absolutely tested to the max because they are dealing with emotional/biochemical problems with their patients daily. I think that often they are verbally abused and tested by patients, hence it's a "if you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen" type scenario for this type of career choice. Back to the question... I don't think all psych docs hate their jobs... but it takes a unique personality to be an effective, compassionate psychiatrist in my honest opinion... as with all professions, if you encounter a rude professional witihn their workplace, chances are that they are burned out, and the profession simply isn't a good fit for them.... either that or they are in need of help to deal with stress.

hating your job and hating your patients are two totally different things... psychiatrists go through med school and spend a looong time in school to earn their career... i think that the 80% of people are in lower level jobs, since that is where most jobs are..think of all the service workers, laborers, factory workers, secretaries...

My mum is a therapist and when it comes to her liking/disliking her patients she seems to be neutral. I'm sure that there are some she likes more than others but she would never treat them any differently.

My psychiatrist likes me. She is very kind and willing to talk to me and suggest things that might help. Hugs! Von
