Can you define a "win" in this engagement we are in at this time. Our military can kick anybodies *** in a real "war". What exactly are we in? I forgot. A response to 9/11? A war on terrorist? Nation Building? Over throwing Saddam? Freeing the Iraqi people? Stabalizing the region? I know there were many other reasons given out over the past years of why we are there. So that the enemy doesnt come here? If that was really the answer I think we would be securing our borders a little bit better. In short we can win any war we choose to win. I'm not so sure when it comes to tippie toeing around.

The first part of the war was won when Sadam and his regime were taken over. The aftermath of the war is yet to be determined by a lot of things. The troop surge is starting to work. The U.S. miltary work hard everyday killing terrorists and destroying terrorist cells. Rebuilding Iraq with the voting, improvements in the Iraq stock exchange, new schools, more roads. We can keep providing for Iraq for many years to come, but we will never get anywhere if the damn Iraqi government does not step it up. They are in a vacation recess right now while a fellow U.S. troop gets shot at. We have done our part and now to vision the full victory is determined by what actions that Iraq takes or don't take. God bless our troops and our president.

Nope, any more than we can win a war against disease.
I am not comparing Islamic people of any sort to disease. It is an analogy of the situation, not the individuals or groups.
There will always be disease/terrorists (Islamic or not). There will always be people who want to destroy the United States (Islamic or not). There will always be times when disease/terrorists get stronger/regroup.
We can fight it.
Or we can die.
We can never win, in the sense you mean.
We won the war for Iraq. We are now fighting a battle IN Iraq over terrorism.
We can't win.
We can beat it down until it doesn't inconvenience us too much (like disease).
Choose.

Not by ourselves. The al Maliki government have to do their part, too. But since Petraeus took over, things are certainly looking more promising. Even with the Sunnis walking out of Parliament, the Sunnis are coming over to "our side" in increasing numbers, and al Qaeda seems on the verge of suppression (though they'll never go completely away). And I suspect the Mahdist splinter groups will not be far behind. It seems the final problem will be getting the oil revenue sharing plan together, which will be something like having our own political parties to love each other.

In war there are no winners. After the war is over people
will begin to have cultural exchange. That is happening now.
How many americans did even know where Iraq was?
How many Americans even knew what there way of life was like? After peace has been declared people and differing nations will come to see how destructive war is.
Look at Germany! Now we are best friends. Look at Japan,
the same. The list goes on and on.

We are fighting the wrong battle. Trying to interfere in a civil war is a waste of our resources and an insult to the troops. As long as Bush continues to put back together the egg that has already smashed open we continue fighting in a war that is not ours to win.

The war in Iraq, possibly.
The war on terror, impossible. Terror is a concept and you can't fight a concept. The only way you could win the war on terror is to conform everyone to your way of thinking. That's not possible. Anyone who goes against your way of thinking could be considered a terrorist.

Well, lets break it down, shall we?
War on Terror.
If we are really fighting this moronic war to stop TERRORISM, then it can NEVER END. Thats like having a war on murder, or a war on cooking pancakes. its just going to happen.
Now, if it were a war on "dem crazy muslims", then of course we can, but i am sure no one would ever think of it that way....besides every republican on the planet.

Yes, will we? maybe. The surge appears to be having a positive effect. Interesting fact, the type of issues faced in Germany were significant for several years after wwII. I think Americans have unrealistic expections about war - too many movies.
