you feel it was best for your child to move on out of your room? b/c of convenience, separation or whatever?

12 months. They slept in the cot beside our bed until then. I felt that was the age they were old enough - they could sleep well, had a good routine - only the room changed.

My brother let his daughter sleep in their bedroom until she was almost 3 years old--but they had such a small apartment the kid would have to sleep on the livingroom couch otherwise. After they moved to a bigger apartment, she got a room of her own.

My sister slept with both her kids until they were about 3 years old too. Just as the youngest was put in the room she would share with her older sister, my sister had a mastectomy and the youngest daughter suddenly needed to be with her mom all the time so she went back to sleeping with my sister (husband had to move to the couch) until she was close to 10 years old.

Our daughter slept in our room, beside our bed in a bassinet until her arms and legs were coming over the sides.Separation anxiety at it fullest!! We then moved her into her own room into a bigger cot for her day sleeps, just to get her used to sleeping in a room on her own. I did this for a few weeks, then introduced the nights. She was about 3 going on 4 months old then. At first, some nights if she was especially unsettled her Dad or I would sleep in the spare bed in HER room with her in her cot, but it did'nt take long for her to settle into sleeping through the night. My Daughter is now 6 and her Dad works night shift so she sleeps with me in my bed and I love it "Cause you need me to look after you eh, Mummy". But it's back to her bed on the weekends.

Both of my children slept in my room, in a crib from when they were born until they started sleeping through the night, which was at about 3 months. Once they were sleeping throught the night, I moved them to their own room.

My children always slept in a bassinet near my bed until they were too big for it. Then I moved them to their crib in a separate room. I would say that was about 3 mos. I was nursing them, so it was definitely more convenient to have them near me. Also, I felt it was better for them to be near me until they were sleeping through the night so that was also key to decision as to when to move them to their own room. I had a rocking chair to rock them back to sleep.

My daughter slept in the same BED with me until she was 3. She is now 9 and has no problems sleeping in her own room in the opposite end of the house. I have a 2 year old son that sleeps in bed with me as well...he has his own bedroom as did my daughter when she slept with me...I just believe in "sleep-sharing" until they are 3...I have friends that let their children sleep with them but, they are much older...(like 12 and 13!!!) No way would that be acceptable! (Just my opinion!)

My daughter slept in my bed when she was little, I was able to nurse her as much as she needed at night. By 3 1/2 months she was down to just one feeding a night so I put her in her own room. I wasn't able to get a good night's sleep with her in my bed, I'd barely roll over and she'd wake up. It took a few nights to get used to it (harder for me than her). She's been very good at sleeping in her own bed since then.

After the sixthe moth we moved the crib to the room adjoining ours..we still had a baby monitor and we left the door between our rooms open. Now our daughter is six, she has her own room across from ours..she moved there when she turned three..

It was so hard for me to move my son out of my room and actually the first night I slept in his room in the rocker.... lol. I moved him into his own room at about 5 months and to my surprise he liked the privacy...my husband went to bed real early (for work reasons) so i always had to get my son to go to sleep before I put him in bed.

we have six children all of our kids stood in the same room as us for a year. after their first bday it was off to their own room. i think the earlier you moved the child to their own room the easier the transition will be. i know that my cousin let her daughter sleep in the same room for almost five years. now she is trying to get her into her own room and well lets just say that kid can have anything and everything she wants to put in her room but could care less cause she is so used to sleeping in mommy and daddy's room.
