Be a pilot in a family is tuff because you don't get to seem them as often compared to a normal desk job. Depends on what you fly as a pilot. Regionals start between 19-22 thousand and your majors can go up into the hundred thousands after being with the company for many years. Fly is fun in my opinion. Well being a pilot for WN(southwest) and Delta Connection is different one is a regional and the other is a major LCC. Now if you compare Jetblue(B6) to WN I would choose WN because of the stability and ASA(Atlantic Southeast Airlines) is okay but Skywest, Horizon, American Eagle are better. Hope this helps

It is hard on family life (most of the time) you can be away from home for long periods of time and than be home for a day or two and leave again, or be away from home for 7 days and home 5 days etc.. Its a wierd schedule and new pilots for airlines are on call 24/7 and some pilots like Corprate pilots or air ambulance pilots are on call 24/7
PAY:
Airline pilots start out with regional most of the time, flying a regional jet first year you will make around 20-22,000 after about 4-5 years of regional flying and making around $42,000 you will be ready to apply to a major airline or cargo airline. These pilots start off making around $55,000 and as you stay with the airline longer and fly bigger planes you make more money. 777 Captains at American make the most money, 747 captains at United make the most for their airline etc.. At the end if you made it all the way up to the 747/777/A330 type plane captain you can be making $155,000-$170,000 but only the lucky few make this type of money with most airlines. There are a lot of flying jobs besides for airline flying, but airline flying does pay the best at the end. Airline pay ranges from $18,000-$160,000
The best paying flying jobs are at Fed Ex, UPS and Southwest airlines in the United States.
Sure there you go pilots really don’t make much money for what they do, but if you love flying it is just something you have to do. It takes a lot of skill and hard work to become an airline pilot, and at any moment your career can end because of a failed flying test or drug test, failed medical exam or a personal injury or even getting arrested. Becoming an pilot with an major airline takes a lot of hours at least 4,500 with 1,000 hours of turbine engine time Pilot in command. And you always have the risk of being fired or furloughed at any moment. Being a pilot is also considered the third most dangerous job in the world. (pilot not only commercial pilot)
It would be fun and hard. Some pilots after a few years get over the fun and just say it is just a job while others love it and always do. But yes it is a very hard job. And one mistake you are and dead and your plane is gone, one medical problem you cant fly anymore etc.. Its a great job if you love flying. It can be hard, flying into an airport with a 30 knot crosswind or doing a CATIII ILS approach etc.. Its hard, flying a plane is not an easy thing to do.
Delta Connection is a regional airline, the pay is bad and the hours are long. Southwest airlines is the best paying major airline in the United States. But the down fall is they only fly domestic flights and only fly 737s so there is no chance to upgrade to flying the 777s 747s etc... and flying to Europe,Asia South America. But they make good money. but also fly alot of short flights and work hard. You need alot more hours and experiance to get a job with Southwest than with ASA.

Your spouse needs to be really independent, because there are days you'll be around all day and get to participate in family events that most working parents miss, and days when you'll be gone for days at a time. Scheduling gets better with seniority, but most pilots (male pilots anyway) have to pay their dues first. Of course, most start out at VERY low paying jobs.
I don't know many Delta pilots, but I've heard that there is a lot of political stress - but that was based on all of the cutbacks of the past few years - I don't know if things have improved or not (and if they are anything like American - I really don't know -, the cabin crew think that they own the aircraft - and treat both the customers and pilots like they are scum... United has a much better customer friendly attitude). Most Southwest pilots I know really like the fun positive customer-friendly attitude of the corporation that trickles down to all levels.

Next to sea farer and military, pilot is one of the rough life to be cos being a pilot mean to be away from family for most of the days in a month (I m talking about International Flight Pilots).
Salary is depend on type of aircraft and nation which own the flying firm. Average is about 6 to 8 thousand USD in Asia + allowances.
It's fun if you love flying but a job with high responsibility. Hundreds of life depend on a pilot in a plane.

First off....you'll get paid more flying a 737 than a regional jet. Second, it is more relaxed at southwest than at asa
