I wouldn't recommend breeding her. Just by your termonology we can see you don't have enough knowledge about canines to be breeding period.

I have so many questions for you about her heat cycle to ask you.. but you prolly won't be able to answer them due to your lack of knowledge... But here they are...

How old is she? When did she start her heat cycle (first sign of blood)? They are most receptive to a male 7-12 days after first sign of heat. That is why she didn't want the male at first but now does... She wasn't ready... he however could smell her and he wanted to breed right away.
I doubt she has been taken to a vet to see if she is able to breed.. much less had her tests done (OFA'D, eyes, etc.) so i won't even ask you those questions.

Canines shouldn't be bred until under the age of 2. They aren't mature until that point. This may be why you are having trouble gettin her to breed... but instincts should take over no matter what.

Your male dog may not know what to do yet... How old is he? He should be bred until he is 2 either.... If he's too young... He may just not know what to do. Younger males of course have insticts and will hump a female but are not experienced enough to know exactly what else to do. Many times you will see them get the "wrong end" (head, ribs) of a female...

And finally they may not like each other! I've had males and females that wouldn't breed because the male wasn't comfortable with the female and vice versa.
I breed dogs and own one breeding pair of each breed of dog. Because not only was i not comfortable with using someone elses male (for many reason, not knowing them, thier personalities etc.) but because i have a female that is very very shy around other dogs, i knew she wouldn't breed with a stranger. And this way i knew my dogs had been tested, shown and proven. They are papered, proven, and tested... Out of every litter i have bred, over 1/2 of them inthose specific litters were show worthy- (examination by a vet) Others were sold as PETS ONLY!

Many precautions should be taken while breeding females... Canines are prone to STD's just like humans are... Did this male dog have any... do you know???

I could go on and on about why it is unsafe to breed non papered unproven in the show ring and untested for genertic diseases and deformaties... But i wont...

I tried to answer your question as politely as i could while educating you!

Good Luck
***GEEZ! I got all wrapped up in the process of breeding I didn't even think to tell you about what would happen IF SHE DID GET PREGNANT! The vet bils, possibility of death (her or pups), time involved, etc. I think everyone else that answer did a good job of covering this... I'll let them elaborate on it)

SHIZZM:
Ok I DID ask the questions.. haven't gotten an answer!!!!!
So maybe you can answer them for me or just the main question i suppose.. WHY DO YOU WANT PUPPIES OUT OF HER? Is it because you want one like her? Is she an outstanding specimen for this breed? OH... and what breed is she? Has she been tested for hereditary diseases? Is she breedable?... in other words is she fertile?

Answer these questions for me if you would...!!!!!!!
It seems as though you and your sister have been on here a few times.. Did you really expect to get n answer commending you for your actions???
You say this lady breeds for a living... did she "lend" you a male to use to breed? Or did she sell you a pup she had to breed? what? How old is the male? that is a pretty important one that i think everyone wants to know... To actually answer your sister's questions!

Please answer them for us!!!
................................................................

OK!!! 8 months... is WAYYY!!!! to young!
He doesn't even know what a female in heat is! Sure he'll try and mate with her cuz she smells funny/good to him, but won't be able to connect! He just doesn't have the knowledge yet. And that can only be gained with age!
The same goes for males and females... they should both be around 2 yrs old before having pups!
If you try and breed him know.. it would be like an 8 yr old trying to make a baby! Not only is that WRONG!!! (shivers) but it won't work!
He needs to be more mature. I can't believe the lady that sold you him... wouldn't tell you that!

To answer your question and your sisters question... Yes he is too young and that is why he cannot breed with her... but tried to hump her when they first met as your sister mentioned.

I strongly doubt you will get puppies this time.

He will be around 14 months when she comes into heat next. He will be a little more knowledgable and might be able to connect but I don't recommend it. He is not... nor is his sperm... fully, sexually, mature.

If you aren't gonna be talked outta this.... which is looks like your not....please wait atleast two more heats (approx. 1 yr.) from your female before you breed them...
You will have stronger, healthier pups if you wait. If you don't... well your pups have the possibility of having alot of health issues etc. Because of the male not being sexually mature!

You should seriously do some research before you go any further. Puppies can mean BIG vet bills and a lifetime commitment to the litter. Puppies ARE cute but without a LOT of research you are taking a chance. You should NOT be breeding a dog at her 1st heat! And He is probably Not old enough to be interested in her. He is only just entering puberty. PLEASE be responsible and learn everything there is to know, go to dog shows, talk to breeders, educate yourself and than decide wether or not you want to become a breeder. Or just find your favorite breed on petfinder and see how many unhealthy ,unwanted pups there already are. I understand your enthusiasm for your beloved pet but unfortunately the majority of pups will not spend there life being loved as much.

At 8 months old, your male dog is equivalent to a 12 year old boy... he has an inkling that the female is something to be interested in, but he's far too young to understand the concept. I really don't think you understand the concept, either. You are far too ignorant and uninformed to be breeding dogs. You don't understand the commitment involved, the repurcussions of your actions, or even the simple mechanics involved... if you had a clue, you would KNOW that the male is just a pup himself and far too young to be breeding. Get a clue. Grow up. Learn responsibility. I hope you DO miss this heat, so that maybe you'll have a chance to think about what the F you are doing...and DON'T pardon my french.

Quit being ignorant and have your dog spayed! You have no idea what it means to be a responsible breeder(obviously) for many many reasons that have already been stated. Don't you realize puppies don't stay like that forever...they'll probably end up in the pound being euthanized because you won't want them after they start making huge messes and grow up and become dogs. People like YOU(and the poster who claims to be your sister) are why millions of animals are dying in the shelters every day! Irresponsible backyard breeders who don't know squat about reproduction, their specific breed(I'm sure these will probably be mutts), inbreeding, and just being plain ignorant of all the unwanted animals that are dying every day because people like you want their animals to mate and "be happy." Yeah, they're gonna be real happy dead....

okay, you guys need to stop being so harsh... (this is my little sister), no-one seems to be reading what she is saying. Someone said something about not breading because this is her first time in heat... when she says it clearly in the question that it isn't... it's actually her 3rd time. And then everyone is saying that she needs to do her research and look up how many dogs there are of this breed that are in animal shelters and just making it sound like we are trying to do something that is like this disgusting.. THEY ARE DOGS, THEY WERE MADE TO MATE, HAVE BABIES, AND BE LOVED. If she does get pregnant, everyone of her pups would have a home with either family or the woman who we got the boy from... (just so everyone knows, she does this for a living... breeds dogs)... But anyway, you ppl seriously need to relax, she's young and everyone just swarms and attacks her. Do most ppl come on here just looking to just chew kids out or is it just human nature...?

okay (idiot above me).. u call me ignorant but u know nothing.. WE DO KNOW THE SPECIFIC BREED.-- WE HAVE HAD MANY PETS BEFORE AND WE KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO HAVE A LITTER OF PUPS.. THIS ISN'T OUR FIRST. So don't call ME IGNORANT when YOU are obviously not smart enuf to sit back and ask enuf questions to know all of the facts you're assuming.

Dara: The boy is 8months (thats was the women told us.), the woman charges us for using her male, or her pick of the litter. We have called around and every breeder tells us the same, $ or pup. I knew nothing when my sister came on here and posted her question. All we really wanted to know was whether or not he was too young. That's it. But most that seemed to be answering were just harsh. And thats still not answering any questions that she might have had in her posting. If she has a small litter we plan on keeping them all(a litter 0-4). If not then we already have homes for them all. Thats besides the point though...

Dogs should NOT be bred until they are about 2 years old. Their bodies have not had a chance to catch up in terms of growth compared to their sexual growth. Males are the same, they may have immature bodies and immature sperm; not ready to mate yet. A female my be in heat 2-3 times before she is healthy and strong enough to have healthy pups. Stop pushing it.

For once dogs don't get pregnant DURING heat it is right after.

AND PLEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT RELATED IF YOU GOT THEM FROM THE SAME WOMAN. Otherwise you're running around with a bunch of retarded pups.

Please make sure they're all healthy and not related he should naturally want to mount her and she will get aggressive and anxious during heat but that's normal. Some dog's just don't work together. It's happened with professional breedings that the male or female just won't accept the other.

If you are breeding for money then...
Breeding and breeding right, is an expensive process. By the time you've picked out a good female, wait for her to grow to atlest two years (minimum breeding age). pick out the best dog to mate her with, gone through health checks, you've invested a lot of time and effort. You still have to pay stud fees. you have the time and expense of whelping (either you take time off from work or something goes wrong and you have to take her in to the vets). You need to keep the puppies for a minimum of 8 weeks before sending them to their homes; you need to advertise and find good homes for the puppies, you need to make sure they have had their shots before going. You may have possible vet bills if the puppies require extra attention. If some of the puppies die, or you have a smaller than usual litter, you may not get as much money from the sale of the puppies as you had though.

If your doing it so the kids can see the miracle of life...

What if the whelping goes wrong and dead puppies are born? What if the ***** dies? These are all very real risks that you are undertaking. Much better alternatives include videotapes that are available. If there are local 4-H clubs, those provide alternatives for children.

Do you want another dog like yours?

If you want to breed your dog so as to get another dog like yours, sit down and think for a bit. No matter how special your dog is to you, a puppy out of it is not guaranteed to be just like or even similar to your dog -- half its genes will be from another dog! You will have to find another dog that also has the characteristics you want in your puppy; that dog will have to be unneutered; and the owner of that dog will have to be willing to breed her/his dog to yours. It is much easier, often less expensive, and certainly less time consuming to pick out an existing dog that you like from the shelter or another breeder.

If you think every dog has to have a litter...
This is flat out wrong.

The only reason you should be breeding is that you honestly feel that you are improving your breed by doing so. There are far too many dogs in the country to breed without good reason. A dog in a breeding program must be one whose genetic history you or its breeder is intimately familiar with. Such a dog must represent the best efforts of its breeder at that point. Such a dog must have good points to contribute, whether that is in good conformation, good performance or whatever. Such a dog must have some evidence of external evaluation. That is, others besides the breeder or the owner must also think that the dog is a good representive of its breed. That usually translates into titles, whether for conformation, obedience, field, herding, or whatever is appropriate for that breed. Such a dog must be tested as it matures for any problems that tend to appear in its breed, whether that is hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, von Willebrand's, cataracts, PRA, fanconi syndrome, subaortic stenosis, etc.

I suggest you don't have a dog unless your trying to sell it or help make another breed... The world has too many mutts to begin with...

You obviously have no idea what you're doing.Do the dog a favor and get her spayed. The puppies won't stay puppies forever. What will you do when they get too big to be cute anymore?

if you want puppies so bad, why dont you foster unweaned puppies for your local animal shelter. they have to euthanize any dog under 8 weeks old unless they have a foster parent.. dont breed her just for puppies!! that's so stupid and immature! get her fixed... than the shelters wont have to euthanize 10-12 million dogs a year!
