You can only ever expect completely unsatisfactory answers to this question, as there is no such thing as a god or gods.
Religious folk, particularly christians think they are being clever when the answer with "he was always there" etc, but the probability of a god as they "know" it, is infinately less than the probability of the big bang, evolution etc..
Expect only weak and infantile arguments from any believer in god..

Alright first of all, God has always been. The Bible says he is the beginning and the end. Genisis 1:1 says that In the Beginning God created heaven and the earth. Also how could God be an all powerful being if someone created Him?

God is a philosophy developed by early man to explain things that they didn't understand.
Lightning would strike and kill people and the only answer was that a God must have caused it.
We know better now, but many people are still struggling with the no God concept, because the theory of eternal damnation has been added to keep people in line.

God started everything. God is the alpha and the omega (words for beginning and end of the greek alphabet). God has always existed and always will. We humans with finite, limited minds cannot comprehend this, but something had to start everthing, now didn't it? Have faith in God's Word.

He is everlasting, the uncaused cause. If He were limited to the physical realm, then He would be subject to cause and effect. But, He is outside of the physical realm and not subject to its rules. There was never a time when He did not exist. You will not believe unless God gives you the faith to believe.

I can't take credit for this as someone previously posted it:
The universe needs a creator.
So God created the universe.
So who made God?
God doesn't need a creator.
So things can exist without a creator?
Yes.
So the universe doesn't need a creator.
Then neither does God.
So either or both the universe and God can exist without a creator.
To which I add:
So the universe can exist without God?
Yes.
Then why would you need a God if you don't need a creator?
You don't.

There is existence, and therefore existence could have never not existed because the leap from non-existence and no life to existence and life is infinite and impossible.
That is the thing: There was never a time when God didn't exist, because God is existence. Since we are a witness to existence, therefore it is logical to say, using the above logic, that there was never a time when existence did not exist.
God is a self-sustaining being and therefore neither begins or ends. He does exist. And before anything we know of was ever created He existed. Existence is not in need of a creator because the creator is existence.

I'm an agnostic, I don't believe in God either but...
Step outside and look up
The sky goes up and up for ever. This defies all the logic that we have, and no human will ever be able to explain it.
I don't believe in God but I believe there are mysteries bigger than "God"

God never required a beginning/creator, because God created space and time, therefore God is timeless/eternal and infinite, because God transcends (is beyond) time and space! God is not subject to time, therefore, doesn't have a beginning or end unlike our universe. Hope this helped, God bless!
