Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Doesn't sound like Christ intended for your popes to change God's Laws!

1Corinthians 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

Titus 1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

1John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

To one and all. Sunday is not the Sabbath of the Bible. Sunday is not the Christian Sabbath. There is absolutely no Biblical justification for Sunday being a day of worship. Sunday was taken from paganism. Sunday worship was introduced by the apostate church (Catholic) of Rome under the rulership of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine was a worshiper of Mithra the Sun God and never repented of it. All who worship on Sunday are sharing in the worship of this false god. Deuteronomy 12:30-31.

The idea that the resurrection was on a Sunday is also false and stems from a lack of knowledge of the Biblical Holy Days, which was supressed by the Catholic church. Read the Passion story in John, there were TWO Sabbaths that week. Why?

Folks, Hebrews 4, read it carefully, it mentions the 7th day, not the first day, as the sancified day of rest. Please look at your calender and see which day is which.

Almost all "christian" churches agree that the 10 Commandments are valid........except for the 4th. Few realize that the 4th Commandment is a reflection back to Creation when the very first thing God made holy was the SABBATH. Thus the Sabbath pre-existed the Siani Covenant! Read Genesis. Read Matthew 5:17-19, what is Christ talking about? Matthew 5:17-19 is in there for our benefit. This is the Messiah, the Savior of the world talking. He did not intend for a single Law of God to be rescinded by His sacrifice for those who broke that Law.

Why is the Law important? Romans 3:20, 7:7, and others
What is sin? 1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
What happens to sinners? Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death....
Because we are under grace, and remember that the above verses define sin and the penalty for it, are we free to do as we wish? Romans 6:15

What is the sign of the True Church, the Elect, at the end of the age?

Revelations 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Lets keep it simple, forget for a moment that there are aproximately 613 Commandments in the Torah and that Yashua says that the least of them has not passed away {Again, read Matthew 5:17-19 and really think about what is being said}, there still remains the 10. Lets suppose (falliciously) that all that there are, are the 10. Are Christians required to keep them? Please study the following verses. Will you take the plain word of the Apostles of the Christ and the Christ Himself over the false teachings of your chruches?

Rev 22:14, Rev 12:17, 1 John 5:2-3, 1Jo 2:3-4, 1 John 3:4, 1 Corinthians 7:19, John 15:10, Mark 7:7, Matthew 5:19.

The 4th Commandment states:

Exodus 20:8 Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day.9 On six days do all your work: 10 But the SEVENTH day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy.

The Sabbath was the first thing God created to be Holy.
What God has made Holy, no man has the right to change. It was Holy before Sinai, it was made for man when man was made {Mark 2:27, and others)

Edit 8/9/07

1.) I am not a Seventh Day Adventist. Although I agree with them concerning the weekly 7th day Sabbath, I can assure you they will disagree with me over the necessity of keeping the Annual Sabbaths of God as well.

2.) Hogie, if you do not believe the scriptrues that you are labeling "proof texts" then you may as well throw out the whole Bible. Have you even studied the subject or are you just parroting the "company" line of the Catholice Chruch?

If it is not God's Law, then there is not and never was any Law. God says MY Sabbaths shall ye keep (Exodus 31:13) God does not say Moses' Sabbaths Ye shall keep, or the Jews Sabbath ye shall keep....It is GOD's Sabbath.

Please explain what scriptures Paul was encouraging Timothy to study to learn the way of righteousness:

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Be aware, Hogie, that you may just be one of or a follower of one of the people mentioned below:

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

3.) All of you who quote Colossians 2:16, read it in context please, it is talking about a day set aside for fasting, not a day of worship. Romans 14: 5 does the same thing. This is not talking about the Sabbath folks.

Further. If Paul was teaching against Commandment keeping he would have been in direct conflict with Christ , again, have you really read Matthew 5:17-19? Are you going to take Christ at His word?

Even further! If Paul had been teaching against the Law, as his Jewish accusers were claiming, then he never would have been allowed in the Temple during his last vist to Jerusalem. In fact, the scriptures show that Paul was NOT teaching against the Law at all! Acts 21:17-26.

And a final point. If Paul was teaching his Jewish converts one thing and his gentile converts another he would have been making himself and God out to be hypocrites.

People who reject the Sabbath and the Law of God have no scriptural foundation whatsoever to stand on.

An examination of New Testament passages shows us four important points: 1) Whenever Christ appears in His resurrected form and the day is mentioned, it is always the first day of the week (Matthew 28:1, 9, 10; Mark 16:9; Luke 24:1, 13, 15; John 20:19, 26). 2) The only time the Sabbath is mentioned from Acts through Revelation it is for evangelistic purposes to the Jews and the setting is usually in a synagogue (Acts chapters 13–18). Paul wrote, "to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews" (1 Corinthians 9:20). Paul did not go to the synagogue to fellowship with and edify the saints, but to convict and save the lost. 3) Once Paul states "from now on I will go to the Gentiles" (Acts 18:6), the Sabbath is never again mentioned. And 4) instead of suggesting adherence to the Sabbath day, the remainder of the New Testament implies the opposite (including the one exception to point 3 above, found in Colossians 2:16).

The Sabbath is the Lord's day, set apart each week for rest and worship. In Old Testament times, God's covenant people observed the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week because God rested on the seventh day when He had created the earth. After the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which occurred on the first day of the week, the Lord's disciples began observing the Sabbath on the first day of the week, Sunday (see Acts 20:7). Also see 1 Cor. 16: 2

Hope this helps

It's difficult to give scriptural evidence but one can provide contextual evidence that the earliest Christians met for worship on our Saturday and shared synagogues with the Jewish religion. Christianity was a Judaistic sect and was seen as such by Roman authorities. However when setbacks occurred in the Empire, blame had to be placed on somebody's god. The Jews became apt on fixing blame on the Christian's god. Paul did all he could to keep Judaism and Christianity together, i.e. his concern for the collection of monies for people in Jerusalem (I Cor.) After Rome sacked Jerusalem in 70 A.D. the rift became worse and to distinguish itself form Judaism, Christian leaders began meetings on Sundays. In "Didactics" they also approved Tuesdays and Thursdays as well, I believe.

Hope this helps, and no, I am not anti-semitic.

Katrina,
The Israelites were keeping the Sabbath after the Ascension of Christ and believe that Paul went to a Temple and preached immediately after he was baptized. That would be in Acts 8, I believe. The Christians met on the first day of the week from everything that we are told by Paul. Have a wonderful evening.
Thanks,.

The words of our Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in Mark 2:27.

"The Sabbath was made for man ..."

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day…(John was in the Spirit the seventh day, the Sabbath of the Lord!) Revelation 1:10.

“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of GOD perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” 1 John 2:3-6.

We have to keep his commandments, and the 3rd is "Keep Holy the sabbath".

Cheers!

I note that Lone Ranger, unable to provide the evidence, resorted to the usual bunch of proof texts to make his point.

Proof texts are not "proof".

Gentile converts were not required to keep the law, let alone the sabbath. They were under the new covenant, not the old.

The law is not "God's law".

Sunday is not from paganism any more than Saturday is.

But if you want to slip into apostasy, this is the way to do it. Flood the debate with assumptions and rationalizations.
