People have been experimenting with drugs and alcohol for centuries with the belief that they are somehow reaching a higher level of consciousness and/or an out of body experience. Personally I think an out of body experience is a myth

I have had a lot of patients experience outer body experiences while on drugs. However, I do not recommend the use of mind-altering drugs.

Although there probably are such methods I would highly recommend that you seek an "in a body experience" that is beyond anything in this world.
By this I mean as Jesus said, that "the kingdom of God is within you." Jesus knew - as have mystics of all ages - is that there is a presence of God inside of you that is your own higher identity which you are meant to become one with.
And, if you can experience God directly within yourself, why would you need to experience some phenomenon outside of yourself?

How about you check out the Bible? Paul was caught up into the third heaven according to the Book of Acts. In Revelation John was caught up into Heaven and the New Jerusalem. Playing with stuff outside of God's will isn't a good thing for you.

that just happened to me when I was awake... For about 5-10 min I lost track of time and location. My friend was driving and I remember I asked him how we ended up in a different neighborhood. I tried to remember but I couldn't. But what I do remember is that I was somewhere else...

Lay on the ground, cause yourself to hyperventilate, then stand up quickly. Or, get choked out MMA style.
