Ok so...my friend..she has long thick brown hair..she wants a perm! And i have known so many people that have ruined their hair that way...her mom is doing it for her.. and even tho her mom has worked in a hair salon before..i still think its a bad idea..and i need a good argument on why its damaging to her hair..she thinks that very few people have problems with it..i need some people that have had bad experiences with perms to share..thanx (:

The best way people learn anything is by making a mistake.

I have long THICK brown hair my self, and if its anything like mine it will be a big waste of money my perm held for maybe a 2 weeks. All the weight of my hair just pooled it right back out. Now I'm just left with a little bit frizz. the only time it is even remotely curly is when my hair is still wet. it was a big waste of 168.95 that i payed at the salon to have it done.

althought perms sometimes take awhile to wrap..it is your friends hair. she should do w/e she wants with it. & the only way it would damage her hair is if the solution is left on too long. but it depends on if she is going to feel like fixing it every morning. some ppl get perms n think they dont have to fix it to make it look good...the problem is you have to fix it or it's going to look like crap. why does she want a perm? i know to get curly hair but what madeher decide to get curly h air? sorry i dont have anything horrible to say lol except if her mom messes it up you can say " i told u so" lol.

well.......you could research on some things about hair and tell her your opinions and tell her why...kind of set it up like an essay to tell her...maybe shes right perms only effect some people badly...my mom got a perm and she had no problem at all...maybe you should let her do it and if it turns out badly just say you told her so.....lol : ) hope i helped!

No way..I had long brown thick hair. I have gotten a large curler perm and it was the best thing I have ever done with my hair.
Now I can see if she is getting a tight curl done that it will look funny.

Just ask her to see what side the curlers are..and convince her to get them bigger if they are too small

It's her hair. Let her get the perm if she wants. If she doesn't like it, then she will learn. It's not life or death.

well, straight perms follow a limitation on colors that you may want highlighted or dyed on your hair. it may also leave your hair really dry and unhealthy.
i get straight perms myself. and i have to take really good care of my hair. it takes some effort to keep it moisturized, you know?

my mom got an in-home perm once.
it burnt up the top of her hair and she ended up almost having a mullet.
