If you want a "photography" camera, you need to be able to control the shutter speed and aperture. Usually, only SLRs or D-SLRs have those options.

What the heck is a photography camera..... All cameras that take pictures are a photography camera.

If you mean, "I want a camera that will take better pictures than my point and shooots" then taht would be an SLR.

There are many choices out there for you to choice from. I personally would get either a Canon or a Nikon due to the fact they both have many equipment out there for their cameras so its hard not to find the right equipment for them. I have used bother and both are supierb cameras. I have a Nikon film SLR and a digital Canon SLR, go to a local store and feel which one is better for you. I am more biased to Canon since I have used Canon P&S's for many years.

For beyond basic point-and-shoot, go for the Canon S3 or Canon S5. I have the S3 and has the capability to adjust the aperture and shutter speeds. It has a good range of ISO's. The S5 is even better, but if you want to spend less money, the S3 will do fine. S3 -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120043

If you're hardcore, get a Digital SLR. Preferably the Canon XTi. For basic point-and-shoot, find a camera at a decent price and search reviews on it to compare.

Enjoy!

It all depends on what you want to do with your photography. If all you want is good quality photos of your family and friends and the occasional vacation then a DSLR might be over-buying. A quality digicam (see the Sept. issue of SHUTTERBUG magazine for a review of 5 10mp digicams) might be all you'll ever need.

If you're more into serious photography and want to exercise control over the picture taking process then a DSLR would be more suitable. Sony, Canon, Nikon and Pentax should be considered. The new Pentax K10D is of interest since it has 10mp, Image Stabilization built into the body, and accepts all previous Pentax K-mount lenses.

Bottom line: only you can decide what direction you want to take with your photography and only then can you decide what camera will best suit you.

I would go with the H7
both cameras have excellent reviews

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping
