I'm duel and rolling in college in a few weeks, and i'm worried sick about weather or not i'm going to do well. My mom puts a lot of pressure on me, which doesn't help, and my dad doesn't care. Please give me some comforting words about college, or about how to decreasing stress. Either one would be great.

College is, without question, the best time of your life. Mom is nice but find out what YOU want to do w/ your life, and college is the way to do it. Don't worry about your major for a while - you will spend the first couple of years taking pre-reqs in various departments and one day you will be sitting in some class (mine was economics) and I just clicked and knew that was the major for me. It's a great time to find you and I don't care what you major in - you will learn more about life and you OUTSIDE the classroom than you will from any book or class you take. If mom is controlling try to live on campus or in an apt w/ some other kids. It's time for some space. Have a blast (I know you will!!) It's been 25 years since I graduated from colleg (groan!) and I still remember it as the absolute best time in my life. Can take a month or so to fall into a groove and meet your new friends but stick it out. You will be SO glad you did.

Mom's and dad's usually want to see their kids grow up to be successful and in many cases, the road to success is through the halls of higher learning. I would recommend that you start with some fairly easy courses, or in subjects you really enjoy so that your transition into college goes smoothly. Also, take as much advantage of the counselors and classes that help you learn to succeed in college as possible.

If you feel that "mom" is putting undue pressure on you, perhaps a heart to heart with dear ol' dad can get her to ease up a bit.

I graduated from college many years ago after being the first from my family to attend. Here are the things that I wish I had known. Start with the most basic classes even if you are smart enough to skip ahead. It is important during your first term to repeat some things that you knew from high school to boost both your confidence in dealing with college level material and your grade point average. Scholarship money goes to those with good grades.

I am proud of you for attending college. You have more going for you than I did. Just take one day at a time, do your best and your will excel. You are probably going to make some good friends too.

First of all you do not need to overload yourself with too many classes. This is your first time and you need to take it slow. So I would suggest only taking 3 classes this semester. Don't worry you'll do fine and if you see yourself slipping then you can get tutoring. Good luck and don't stress.

Don't worry. Just have a good attitude and show up for class. Even if you struggle w/ the material, making friends with the instructor will go along way-----again, just show up and don't be pissy.
