like with anything that requires the use of a muscle some naturally are good but it can be trained.
wit is like fast twitch muscle', so like training for sprints one needs to train thought and vocabulary for fast response the more you do it the better you get

Some of each. Read funny books (PG Wodehouse, Mark Twain, Douglas Adams, for instance, be with funny people)
Contrary to popular myth, alcohol does not make people funnier, it just makes them think things are funnier. So I only mention that as a last resort. If your jokes don't go over well, they might be old and worn out, or you may be doing something wrong in the timing or specific wording that makes it not work right. If you are not married, it will be hard to get anyone to tell you about that.
If you never do get it, don't worry, being good natured and kind is much more important.

I think you either have it or you don't!! You can tell if somebodies trying to hard to be witty it just isn't!! It definitely comes naturally!!!

You have to get up early and practice. I think most of it is down to confidence. If you build up your confidence and self esteem, wit will come naturally.

Read a lot of books and do crossword puzzles. That helps build your vocabulary and reflects more wit.
