People who think that vegetarians can't be overweight truly amaze me. I was a vegetarian for 10+ years.
What makes you fat is sugar and sweets. Stay away from that. But if you really like them - put a daily limit on it. Say, not more than one small cookie per day.
Fatty foods also make you fat. I'm not saying switch to non-fat everything. But avoid eating really greasy stuff like fried potatoes or pizza (if you eat cheese)
Eat more tofu and all kinds of beans.
Make sure you get enough exersise. You need to run like 30 min per day or something equivalent, like DDR or whatever makes you sweat from activity.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but...
Eating certain types of lean meat actually help you lose weight. In a balanced diet with legumes, nuts, fruit, dairy and veggies, meat can help you lose fat and gain muscle mass better than anyother product. You may also want to try adding some protein powder and a multi vitamin to your regime as well. A common cause of unwanted weight is the body trying to store fat to make up for nutrients we arent getting.

Check out this article from MSN that is very informative about power foods.
