I want to get a small/medium sized dragon tattoo on the back of my right shoulder.. right on the shoulderblade... but I heard that is one of the worst places to get a tat... && I do not handle pain well... at all... I've never broken a bone or fractured anything I have no idea what it's like.

I want one either on my shoulderblade, near my hip bone or around there... or maybe my upper arm, right before my shoulder.

If any of you guys have gotten one in any of those places.. describe the pain. what could you compare the pain to?

Shoulder blade wasn't bad at all, and of the six that I have now none were as painful as the various bones that I have broken in my life! Its a sharp pain at first and it just keeps going and after a bit you kind of get used to the feeling. The outlining is usually the worst, whereas the filling in of the body of the tat usually goes pretty quickly and never seemed as painful to me. So far I have one on my chest, three on my upper back and one on each arm from shoulder to just above the elbow.

I've got tattoos all over, and there is always a measure of pain involved, except with perhaps a shop that sells 'Deaden, Tat Numb', or similar products. They are quite expensive, and I've never tried them- but I've heard that they don't work worth a flip. I don't know anyone that stocks it... due to its high wholesale cost. Anyway a tattoo on your sholderblade is not too painful (compared to areas like your ribcage or armpit) considering how long you get to enjoy your new tattoo. Being a tattooist myself, and having some compassion; I've taken the extra effort to develop a very light hand. Ask your tattooist if he has a light hand, and you'll have your answer if he looks away when you ask him that. The really important thing is that you pick the right design for you... there is so much flash (pictures) to choose from, it's really important that you get your moneys worth. Hope this helps you decide when and where. Take care. Oh, yeah... in answer to your main question, it's usually compared to a bee sting. I don't think it's all that bad, but you'll find out. Thats just part of it.

Tell the tattoo artist that you have a low pain tolerance. He maybe can give you some of that ointment to numb the area.

The pain really isn't that bad in that location. Feels like a cat scratching you but the tattoo artist does stop every few seconds to wipe away excess ink and that gives you a break. The coloring in /shading isn't painful to me.

If you need to take a break, just tell the guy. I think if you get a small tattoo, it'll be done before you know it. I think my inner wrist tattoo hurt worse than the shoulder.

It's worth the pain and dragons look cool!!!

All tattoos hurt. No matter where. However, it hurts more when it is over a bone or sensitive areas like the insides of your arms. I have one on the front of my shoulder. It hurt, but the worst pain was on the part that was over my collar bone. I noticed that after awhile you just kind of go numb and it's not that bad. It's going to hurt no matter where you get one, but out of your choices I would say the upper arm would be the least painful.

sure I have a significant tat at the small of my again that was once designed by means of me for the duration of a seek advice w/the artist. Took three hours and six colours. The tat has plenty of symbolism to it with targeted that means to me and my existence. It harm like Heck upon the preliminary reduce and for the duration of the bolding of the outlines in distinctive places however then there is a few comfort as soon as the coloring starts. However, the worst aspect of the consultation was once the final 10 mins or so. By that point my dermis was once extremely touchy. The discipline is gentle for a even as in a while however now not insufferable.

the pain in getting a tattoo should be the least of your worries....hepatitis C, HIV (aids), allergies to the ink used, etc. should be the important focus. Getting a blood disease is one of the worst health problems you can have. Don't get a tattoo, you will regret it, and then have to spend thousands to get rid of it.

It's different for different people. Tattoos hurt. Laser removal when you get sick of the dumb tattoo in a couple of years hurts even more.
