"God Told Me To" by Larry Cohen, a multi-genre masterpiece
in which the main character, a police officer who is self-loathing, but also a pious believer in Catholicism, is told by his freethinking ex-wife "You know, you have the faith, but where is the love"?
And that's just one of many ways Cohen points out that people should focus on the important things,
i.e. being charitable to the needy is more important than policing people who step out of line.
Some film student even wrote an entire thesis paper on this film because there was so much to it. published in the book below.

The Gospel of John. I still can't get over how well done that movie was. The way it was presented was accurate, and they weren't afraid to show what happened in John 6, in that Jesus was shaking off those people, not trying to attract them. The things that he said to the Pharisees was abrupt and as close as the Good News Bible ( Which is the version they used to tell the story) , could get to what happened.

It reflects my theology because Jesus wasn't about lilies and sparrows all of the time. He had some real hard things to hear for some people. This movie showed that. And yet, the Jesus that is lovable is still there to see.

After thinking about it I'd go with the recent remake of Luther--but my first impulse was to say that Signs would be if it counted as Christian genre. Ben Hur would also be in the running, and is my all-time favorite.

"Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring, Again" by the Korean writer and director Dik, is Buddhist genre movie that expresses my personal "theology".
Buddhist don't actually have a theology as Buddhist don't believe in a god (smile) as Buddhist do not look outside of themselves for their own answers.
Buddhist attempt to live in mindful awareness practicing kindness, compassion and oneness with and for all of existence in the present moment

May it all be well with you.
