"God is going to do a great work in you!"
I have heard pastors say that to several people I knew and once we had a prophet come to our church, at least he claimed to be a prophet, and I noticed that all his prophecies were vague like that. I'm not knocking the gift of prophecy. I believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I think that God is going to do a great work in every believer. I think that is such a very vague prophecy that no one could ever pinpoint or prove wrong. I think the people who prophecy like that are just trying to prophecy broadly because they don't have a real prophecy from God.

If someone prophesies over you and you don't feel a stirring in your spirit, then I would ignore it. God will let you know it is for real or not.

I know a young girl that was told one time, her new husband was on his way, to get ready..This girl, while beautiful in God's eyes was a large, plain girl and not very interesting...no boy had probably ever looked at her twice,,,she took this so to heart, she went out and bought a bridal chest and filled it full of things for her wedding. I watched her get more and more depressed over the next few months...her love didn't come and the last I heard, she is still single...This did have an effect on her faith,, I just know it. I thought it was a cruel thing to do, but maybe the one doing it,,really believed they had that message for her.

We have to be careful with our spiritual gifts...and don't misuse them. And make sure before you do anything that it is really coming from God and not your own mind..

On the good side, I know a young man who was told he was going to be a great preacher when he grew up....He was...He was my Pastor when I got saved....and the best pracher I have ever heard... : )

Prophecy is serious, including that of personsal prophecy. Some allow themselves to "get into the flesh" rather than yielding themselves to a genuine moving of the Holy Spirit. Even the gift of tongues is not to be initiated by the mind of man,but again by the Spirit of God.. I also include praying in tongues,in the personal prayer closet...by the spirit of God.

To be used in any of the 9 Gifts of the Spirit, one needs to be yeilded to and living in the Spirit, not living in the world during the week and then expecting God to use them in corporate gatherings and entrusting them with Spiritual gifts.

Look at all of my wonderful friends, here. I am blessed.

The Gift of prophesy is truly for the buiding up and edification of the CHURCH. Too often its become a personal christian foretelling arena. May the Lord cover me, but I do possess the gift of prophesying and this is a gift that has been abused over the years in christian circles. The " word" from the mouths of the ones prophesying has nullified the ability for believes to " hear God " for themselves. Jesus said that His sheep know His voice and will not follow another. We simply need to be very careful that this gift that is broadly used and spoken in a " broad " way to encompass so many matters in a vague way is not substituting for our personal seeking of the Lord.
The gift of prophesy has been genuine also and I thank the Lord for those who have the real anointing and leading of the Lord .. these ones who are Gifts " TO" the Body. Its not a matter of getting a name for themselves but of being simple before the Lord and functioning in taht capacity before Him unto the building up of the Body of Christ.

Unfortunately the term" God is going to do a great work in you" is all too vague and broad. May we diligently seek the Lord for ourselves and know Him in a real and genuine way so that we all will be blessings to the Body of Christ.

I have only stood in front of a few Prophets.
They were Real.
They pinpointed things.
They came true.

There are Real Prophets.
There are False Prophets.

There are Real Prophets who "Miss it" at times.
There are Real Prophets who are "Right On".

For the Real Prophets, it mostly depends on how much "HomeWork" they do befor they Prophecise as to How Accurate there Prophecys will be.

I have seen many prophet who think that they have to prophecy over everyone that comes before them, this is when you get a general all purpose prophecy.

is it that embarrassing to say to someone, "I got nothing"

I agree with you completely. This is one of several things that caused me to leave the Pentecostal movement.
