dogs will NEVER starve themselves, now cats are different, but dogs no. With the hot climate dogs tend to loose their appitite, its perfectly normal. Once the heat calms he will pick his eating back up. My mini dachshund usally eats about a cup of food 2x a day but now she has cut way down, because of our heat.

I am not a vet but my 2 year old dachshund does this all of the time, especially when my dad is on a business trip. Don't panic! When they get really hungry they will eat. Some dogs just don't eat as much as normal in the summer because of the heat. If this lasts for more than a couple of days, though, I would take him to the vet, just in case.

I don't want to scare you, but continue to keep an eye on him. My dachshund had this happen to her when I was growing up. She had swallowed the top of an eye dropper and it lodged in her throat. She wouldn't eat any of the things we tempted her with that she loved. After a few days she started to act funny, lethargic, so we took her in right away and got her x-rayed. Once that was out, after a few days she was back to her hungry self!!!

i have 2 shi tzus and one is 3 yo boy, there are days he doesnt eat, and if there is a day he hasnt eaten at all he will through up. and then go and eat. its not normal behaviour but our vet says that he is healthy. what i discovered is that sometimes you ca trick him into eating. piece of chese singles works great. i will give him one and he will eat it and then i guess he remembers that he is hungry and he will go eat. or sometimes i give him dog treats and he will go eat as well. try it and see what happens. give him smth he likes and she if he will eat it. if not... then i would call your vet, he might be sick.

Is this the first time he is not eating? Did anything happen to him today? Give another day. If he still not eat, take him to vet.
