I have already gone to MEPS and signed but have not gone to basic yet. Can i just tell my recruiter that im not interested anymore. I want out because i wanted to be in EOD. After being told that it wouldn't be a problem, Meps said that i couldnt because i had an MIP. My recruiter said just to pick a job and i could transfer to EOD later before bootcamp. Well that never happened so im stuck with Jet Mechanic (AD) and hate it.

Yes you can tell him that but look at it this way even if you had qual and were given EOD you still need to pick a job what happens if you were to washout in EOD school which happens quite often. Look I can empathize with you to a point, Your recruiter did not lie to you something happen that was no fault of anyone not even you. This would have come out at some point say when they did your security clearance. As far as being bummed about being a AD that is a pretty good rate you can really advance your self and plus you pretty much will not be on ship AD'S have a very wide rage of duty stations from Air Frames/ from jets to P3 Orion's to helos. You also get get the opportunity to try out for air crew school so think about it. Now should you have your mind made up well that's cool its your choice just choose wisely forget the fact that its the Navy think about the Job opportunity and Training that you will get heck you can even get your A&P liscense as well as have the Govt pay for your education and all the other bennies that go with it. I am a Ret Machinist Mate and a former recruiter so I can relate to how you feel if you really and truely do not want to go then don't just do waste your or your recruiters time.

There is nothing wrong with being a maintainer! The pilots may fly the mission, but without their maintainers, nothing would happen! It's the maintainers who make sure the planes are battle ready, who turn around jets in record time to get the sorties, who work long hours just so the plane can make its mission. It's an honorable profession!!
As for seeing "action", you may not be in a major hot spot, but you will be a huge part of the action. And trust me, even back where the keep the planes, there will be days when you are in delta and you're acting like a groundhog. Or, you'll be sent out to do a plane recovery, on the Iraqi border, with no weapon for protection, just your tools! (Hubby has done it!)

AD or as those of us who have made it to the fleet call them Mechs. have a pretty decent job. You can go Aircrew and become a Flight Engineer on a P-3. You can get backseat qualified for F-18s. You can get an A/P license to help with employment after your hitch is up. It is a good deal but if you want out somebody wants in and would be thrilled if you gave them your bed. I had to wait almost a year after I was found fit for full duty after a broken ankle. When I came in I came in under the G-TEP program. I had a choice of 3 rates but had to go to the fleet for a time between 1 year and 18 mos. Best choice I made. Think it over before you make a decision.

Well you probably CAN, but you are pretty far along in the system. You shouldn't have signed the contract in the first place, held out for it to be in your contract. In the Army today (or maybe you are Air Force) you will see action, maybe not Rambo style action if you are Air Force and/or a mechanic, but you won't be bored. At the very least you can know the military needs you right now, and you can always change jobs later as well.

Believed I could give you some advise but not knowing primarily what those initials stand for, I will go straight to tell you that if what bothers you is the wrong choice of skills, (something which I should think could be something truly interesting), try your best to talk to your immediate superiors and counselors so they can help you choose what hopefully will be your future career. It will not help anyone much if you're unhappy!!!

Ok i am in the military its not that bad. but as long as you havent gone to MEPS that second time you dont have to go to basic as you said just let your recruiter know that you are no longer interested he/she is going to try and talk you in to it but if you dont want to go they cant make you go if you havent sworn in( which you do the second time you go to MEPS) but its not that bad its a great experience.

How do you know you hate being a jet mechanic? You haven't even started the job yet. You could trade me jobs if you like, I'm a cavalry scout. (19D).
