I am getting married next Saturday (ahhh!!) and i am wondering whether or not i should make a speech...? What do you think? Has anyone been to a wedding that have had a bride make a speech?

both me and my groom got up and said a few words, thanking people for coming out for our special day and thanking those who really made the day possible. nothing too long, sweet and short. :)

Usually the bride doesn't give a speech. But I say...dare to be different. It's your big day, and if you want to make a speech then do it. It's your day to shine. The only thing I would say is to keep it short and sweet, because you don't want to have a long run on speech. I intend to give a short speech at my wedding. Don't let others tell you how your special day should be. I think it's a really good idea.

My husband and I went to a wedding in Seattle last Saturday and after the Best man gave his speech the groom went next and then the bride. I had never seen that before, but it was great. It's your day. don't let someone tell you that you can't do something just because it's not the "Ordinary" thing to do.

This very special day belongs to you and your groom-to-be so if you are so inclined and want to give a speech, then do so. There is no Wedding Day 101 handbook, this is a wonderful celebration and comes down to what you and your partner want. Nothing else matters.

PPS: Yes, I have attended weddings where the bride has made speeches, for me absolutely nothing unusual in this.

It is customary, but you have to do what feels right for you. Every wedding I've attended, the bride and groom have always given a speech, even just a simple thank you to everyone for attending. It has a way of personalizing the occasion which is nice.

Honestly, I didn't think it was customary for the bride to give a speech, just the best man, possibly the maid of honor and/or the father of the bride, but since you feel you must do so, just speak from your heart, there is nothing worse than reading something off of a piece of paper. The words are there, believe in yourself. Best Wishes!

I have been married for over four years and I didn't give a speech at my wedding. After the fact I wish I did though. First of all, I made wired-heart bookmarks (very cute), but no one knew what they actually were intended for. So, if I gave my speech I could have let people know that plus to give thanks for so many people coming to my special day.
Do what makes you comfortable but don't live your life with the should have - could have thoughts.

The bride and the groom usually give a thank you speech to their guests. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. At my wedding I made my Husband do the talking and he basically just thanked everyone for coming and sharing our day with us and told everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves for the rest of the night.

I've never seen a bride give a speech (been to over 20 weddings). It's not really customary. I guess you can if you want.

Hmmm....
I must go to strange weddings. I do some wedding photography, and I'd say at least half the time, the bride and the groom, as well, will say a few words. Mostly just thanking the guests for sharing their special day, that sort of thing.
So it would be fine if you wanted to say a few words.
