I'm tired of people who have known me for a while and then when they find out what I have they get scared. This is because the only thing they know about is Sybil. I'm sick of the bs . Being a multiple is one of the hardest things I've ever had to cope with.

Actually, it's patronizing attitudes like yours that bug the crap outta me. As education about mental illness improves, the ridicule & social stigma decrease. I don't know if you have a mental illness or are just trying to seem sympathetic, but your comment is border-line offensive. But to answer your question, it's not been an issue for me. I'm bi-polar with a list of designer syndroms, like PTSD, trailing after that diagnosis. My family & friends are fairly evolved & all of them learned to walk upright a long time ago, so I'm not subjected to ridicule regarding my illness. Get a clue, Babe.

I am not considerd mentally ill; however I am compelled to answer. I cannot imagine how you feel; however there are some people in this world that believe many of those labeled with mental illness are VERY BRIGHT and VERY PERSONABLE.... It is upsetting that you are labeled and chastised... to all who read this.. I know that while there are some who suffer from severe cases of mental illness, I also know a lot of very successful people that have a mental illness. It would appear to me that if you are successful with a mental illness, you are a lot less scrutinized than if you are low to middle class.

I wish you well!

Whoooa sweethart! I have an issue with people like you who seem to think that just because they have had bad experiences in the past, so has everybody else.

I have a mental health issue, as do lots of other people all over the world. I don't think of myself as mentally ill, because I'm not ill.

And I have never been ridiculed or stigmatised by anyone and if I have been behind my back then thats their problem, not mine!

Where do you get off lumping us all into one great big comment!

I work with the developmentally disadvantaged and yes some people ridicule these individuals only because they don't understand. Just because they may look or appear different doesn't make them any less human!! They all have feelings!!

I'm bipolar and the only person who has ever ridiculed me for having it was my brother, I think it's because he doesn't understand it and is just scared by what he doesn't understand like most people...

Of course: labels aren't fun for anyone. Through education and awareness we can reduce STIGMA.
