I don't have very many female friends, certainly none that are very close. I spend alot of time with my mom- we go to the bar together.. she is just my best friend in the whole world! and she isn't married either. (I do have 3 other bridesmaids by the way)
Is it ok for my mother to be the maid of honor at my wedding, or is that totally out of league?

I will be having my mother as my maid of honor. Even though I do have close girl friends, no one else has been there for me my entire life and will always be there for me the way she is. I think your mom would be very proud.

I guess but Mother Of The Bride is an honored title...as the MOB she'll be walked down the aisle as a most honored guest, in all her Mother of the Bride Glory, and seated in the first pew in a seat of honor...as a member of the bridal party she will be one of a group with no special distinction....will have to wear the same bride's maid's dress, not a very fancy gown of her own choosing, both in style and color........ it's a nice thought but as a mother of four adults I would rather be the traditional mother of the bride......

Sure, why not?? Don't get caught up in all the traditional trappings and traditions. Your wedding ought to be an expression of who you two are and your lives. If your mom is your best friend then ask her to be your maid of honor. I coordinated weddings for awhile and the thing I said over and over again is "this is your day". I've seen male "grooms of honor" because the bride's sister had passed away and the man was the girl's best friend....make it about you and what makes your heart happy.

Of course she can but make she wants to be the maid of honor, most moms would rather be mothers of the bride, but since u dont have very many girl friends see what she says and then do what u want to make it your special day...

You can pick ANYONE to be your maid/matron of honor. She'll have two titles, Mother of the Bride and Maid of Honor!

Heck you could also choose a guy to stand on your side as the Man of Honor or a Bridesman!

Whynot? When my mother was remarried I was her Maid of Honor, so why not have your mom as your maid of honor. I think that is a wonderful way to celebrate your relationship. I wish I was that close to my mom!
Good luck!

yes, i think that is great for you to include your mother in that way.

some people feel you shouldn't because she already has a part in the ceremony as mother of the bride and that job already has its own duties.

she will feel even more special to you and if you want to and your future husband likes the idea GO FOR IT.

tell mom that a friend on answers thinks she'll be the best M.O.H in the world. GO MOM

My personal opinion is, its YOUR wedding and no one elses. If you want a circus to be there go for it, its your day and it only come once. Plus a maid of honor is someone who is close to you and someone you love dearly and if thats your mom then she is the right person! Congrats! Good Luck, and let her do it! :)

My mom is my beat friend. She was my matron of honor. I couldn't think of any one better than her to be there beside me for my big day.
I say go for it! She will always remember the wonderful honor you showed her.
