Perhaps many Atheists in USA do not believe in God because many 'Christians' (by their beginning actions) apparently do not believe in him. If they did; they would realize that the old testament is not Genesis-Malachi (violating 2 Tim. 3:16-17) but is the law of Moses (2 Cor. 3:13-14 KJV (synonym); along with applying the 2 ore more witnesses principle Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1).

I would say, "because you gave me reason and intellect, and I would assume you expected me to use it. There are hundreds of religions in the world, and you gave me no reason to pick this one over others. And because you had a perfect system set up that really made it look like it was a product of logical, scientific events. I apologize for making the wrong decision, but don't see how I could be expected to know."
Now the question is, what if Allah or Vishnu asks YOU why you didn't believe in them?

I am not an Atheist - however I wonder about this question, and wondered what an Atheist would say.
When you fall in love with someone, it is a feeling, it isn't like anything concrete comes before you with the word LOVE flashing on it. You go with how you feel.
When you dislike something, same thing - you just know, deep inside you don't like something.
So why then does there have to be something/someone concrete standing smack dab in front of you in order to you believe?
Just curious, can't wait to see the replies to your question.

Me: There was no logical reason to believe in or rely on you.
God: Well, not too many people got it right.
Me: I know. As a smart, logical thinker, I knew Christians (along with many other religions) were false. So what is the right idea?
God: See the movie Dogma
Tada!

I'd say, "Some angry chick on Yahoo Answers asked the same question. Unlike you God, she was sarcastic and taunted people who didn't think like she did."
Then God would say, "Funny, people who 'believe' in me are just as likely to be unkind as people who consider themselves nonbelievers. I'm left to wonder, what's the difference?"
Then I'd give him/her a consoling hug and let him/her know that it's not his/her fault. People just walk around with a lot of baggage and when they get so sick of themselves that they can't take it anymore, they try to bring down the people around them.

This is a tough one. Most people need some sort of proof before believing. I think faith is a big part of it. Then others will not believe no matter want.

where would god say this? from a mountain top. from the sandy beaches of florida. from the grasses of the plains. over a veggieburger and fries dinner. from the tv on cnn...im sorry foxnews. from a whales song. from the crack that threatened to break our mothers backs. the question is stupid. atheists dont believe in god...so god would never ask it.

It is not a matter of faith, it IS a matter of PROOF.
Would you buy a used car before seeing it? NO Why? don't you have faith that the owner is honest?
Having faith in something that can not be seen is silly in my eyes
Edit:
I'd say where you on 9/11???

I'd be honest. I'd say "because the god concept is logically impossible and I couldn't force myself to believe in something I know to be impossible".
And then I'd wake up from my dream and go about living real life.
