When he is in his crate, he covers up his food with his blanket. Do you think he doesnt want it? He doesnt mind when i put him in his crate so it shouldnt be out of frustration.

I have a dog that does this. When she is done eating she covers it up so the other dogs wont see it. She is saving it for later. Even though it is in the dogs crate he still feels the need to cover it up and does not want anyone else to know he has it. You will see that a little later on he will uncover it and eat it. He will probably then recover it if there is still any leftovers. Its similar to burying a bone. They dont want any other dog to get it so they bury it where only they know where it is. (or so they think)

Your puppy thing that your going to take his food away from him and wants to try to protact it, thats all. After your puppy gets to know you better he should stop, but its the small stuff like this in dogs and puppy that makings them soo cute too.

You know how dogs bury and hide bones? It's probably like that. He thinks it's important, so he's trying to hide/bury it for later.

Maybe he's hiding it! My cat scratches at her food like she is trying to bury it, then comes back later and eats it...

i think he is saving it for later. My puppy does this with treats hes not in the mood for or anything too hard to chew at that time.

maybe the food smells and he's covering the food up because of the smell.

don't really understand the problem. is he not eating it or what? as long as the dog is healthy and not making a mess I wouldn't worry about it.
