I've broken several mirrors in my life - and neither instance was followed by 7 years of bad luck.

Still, something can be said of 4-leaf clovers. That you just ran into a 1 in 10,000 shot, several times. That the clover may have experienced a possible recessive gene appearing at low frequency. Or, that a somatic mutation or a developmental deviation occured due to environmental factors.

My understanding is normally clovers have three leaves and four leaves is a fairly rare mutation, so its unlikely for anyone to find one. If someone does find one they must be lucky, and it is heralded as a sign of good luck. When I was a kid I found a five-leaf clover.

the place where that superstition arose probably had mostly three leaf so the four leaf variety were rare ergo good luck. the significance of the leaves on clover is nil.
