Depends on what I’m in the mood for, but here are some og them:
Fresh-baked soft pretzels with mustard.
Salt water taffy “from the shore” OR as many folks refer to it as “the beach”
Fudge “from the shore” OR as many folks refer to it as “the beach”
Cheese fondue.
On a warm, lazy summer afternoon or evening, icing down a 1/4 keg of beer - because a 1/2 keg is too much beer [does it really make a difference what kind?] - S-P-R-E-A-D-I-N-G out some newspapers on a couple tables, cooking a bushel of fresh crabs, sitting at those tables with my wonderful family, my terrific friends and a few fantastic neighbors, talking and getting to know one another just a little bit better - while Sinatra softly plays in the background! [Is this a fantasy-come-true OR a comfort food - or two?]
Many, many different flavors of Italian water ice and/or snow cones/shaved ice.
Doritos - believe it or not, I JUST had these for the first time. They’re a little too salty, but they taste pretty good.
Fresh blueberries and other fruits in-season.
Deviled eggs - the way my daughter and sister-in-law make them.
Sugar-free black licorice - the nibs - not the cakes.
Black licorice pipettes.
Kookaburra {black licorice - the regular kind ONLY its called Kookaburra [pronounced "koo (as in "cool") kuh (as in "cup") bur (as in "berry") ra (as in "rush" ]
O-M-G!!!!! As far as I’m concerned, this is even better than pontefrack [do you really want to know?] cakes [and, according to some of “the experts” (whoever they are) “this is the best licorice in the world“.]
[Sorry, I don’t care for the red, chocolate or any other licorice flavor.]
I wish you well!
VTY,
Ron B.

It's funny seeing these answers...not that any of them are wrong..but omfort food to me is something that you ate whiel being young at home, that today brings back that particular memory of being safe, family, and being loved... in other words what it meant to be home. For the older generation (and I have to admit it, but I am one of those) it would mean meatloaf with mashed potato's, Fried Chicken, or a nice pot roast with gravy. But you see in the list of answers is has meant for different generations, different things. This is a great question as it show the different trends in food over the years.
Mine by the way is a beef storganoff my mother used to make on special occasions at our house. Those memories always come back to me, everytime I have it.
