Hello again Sunshine. I believe I just answered another one of yours. Why wouldn't atheists believe in the "supernatural" all that word means is something beyond what we humans as a species are used to happening on a regular basis, and can't yet understand. Organ transplant would have been pretty darn supernatural to somebody a thousand years ago.
I think the evidence is overwhelming that somehow, still to be discovered, there are dimensions of "being" separate from the one that we are in on this planet, in what we call "life". And in those other dimensions there exist intelligences (still beyond our understanding and our comprehension) which, from time to time seem able to get through from their side to ours.
Believing, or not believing in the existence of some single mysterious invisible superbeing who created everything and controls us all like puppets, is something totally different from recognising and acknowledging that there are things outside the normal range of our natural understanding (super-natural), that we occasionally make contact with in some form, but have almost no real understanding of...... yet. Some day we will, and then, just like all the things that used to be "supernatural" to humans thousands, or hundreds of years ago, but aren't any more... these things wont be either.

I wouldn't think that atheists believe in ghosts or spirits because they believe the you flesh is just a blob of mindless nothing destined to evaporate like mist into nothing. Ghosts and spirits would indicate that the body does , or once did house a spiritual being which lasts on after physical death. Atheists believe there is nothing in you that is salvaged after death. You just die and disappears without any meaning or hope what so ever.

no. i have no use for the supernatural as a category, i'm a monist i suppose. there are, i'm sure, plenty of natural things that i don't know about, and i can't tell the difference between those and the 'supernatural'. if there is something going on with ghosts, i think it's mostly (if not all) in the minds of believers, same with god.

I've always liked paranormal stuff... Now is it real...eh... Always a skeptic. Though have had my own "ghostly" stuff I was never able to explain, and I am only ever willing to consider the few incidences that I have NEVER found an explanation for.
My personal opinion...if 'ghosts' were real, well there's no reason they have to be connected to religion, deities, or any of that. I mean...maybe they are proof against a "heaven"? Maybe it's simply another dimension and form of existence right on this planet?

There's a lot about the world we don't know. Many people reckon they've seen one, and not all of them could have been imagaining things. We don't have enough knowledge yet to completely discount the idea of ghosts, although I am quite sure that they are not spirits of the dead.
An odd position you might think for an atheist to take, but there it is.

No I believe in humanism.
Humanism is a philosophy of life inspired by humanity and guided by reason. It provides the basis for a fulfilling and ethical life without religion.
Humanists make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values.
Humanists see no convincing evidence for gods, the supernatural, or life after death.
Humanists believe that moral values are properly founded on human empathy and scientific understanding.
Humanists believe we must live this life on the basis that it is the only life we'll have -- that, therefore, we must make the most of it for ourselves, each other, and our world.
Humanist philosophies have arisen separately in many different cultures over many thousands of years. Whether or not they use the term humanism, tens of millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of people around the world agree with the humanist philosophy of living a happy and productive life based on reason and compassion.

No ghosts for me, sorry. I look at it as that most people describe ghosts as "lost spirits" who don't make it to either Heaven or Hell. Seeing as though I don't believe in either Heaven or Hell, I don't believe that there are any spirits. I believe our energy is recycled into the ground and the plants around us when we pass and that it helps other organisms grow, suggesting that energy cannot be created nor destroyed.

I believe many things do happen that science has not yet explained. I do not, however, tack on my own explanations for them such as ghosts, aliens, Jesus, etc. I simply wait for a scientific and logical explanation rather than making one up or going along with a popular one. Too bad more people don't practice this.

believing in the paranormal does not indicate a belief in a deity, first and foremost. I believe there are spirits that are on a different plane than we are, and only when we are close to leaving this plane we live in can we communicate with them. Unless of course you have a 6th sense.
