As a Christian here are my reasons to support Israel:
1. Jesus died because I sinned. The people who actually physically killed him were Roman soldiers. The Jewish leader accused Him. But Christ died because EVERY person commits a sin and His death is required for our salvation.
2. Israel is a democratic nation that has more in common with the US, UK, and other democracies. There are more than 1 million Arab-Muslims citizens of Israel. There are even Arab members in the Knesset. Israel makes mistakes but is not hostile to Western values like other nations in the region.
3. Jews and Christians share the Old Testament/ Bible. We worship the same God.

The Jews did not crucify Christ - the Romans did. The Romans made the final decission.
The Jews are seen as God's chosen people. Christians are taught to honor the Jews as such.
A predominantly Christian nation will support the Jews based on that simple fact.
On a much less religious note, the nation of Israel was created to give the Jews a home place. That, in itself, is part of the fulfillment of prophecy. Christians desired it to be part of making prophecy come to pass.

Being a Jew is not just a religion; it is also a nationality. Jesus was Jewish, don't forget. The Old Testament is Jewish scripture. The Jewish people were waiting for the messiah and still are. They did not recognize him when he came because they had expected a political or military deliverer, which Jesus was not. Nevertheless we respect and believe in the Old Testament that the Jews were the people chosen by God from whom the savior would come to the world. They did kill him. They were his own people, though. He loved them. On the cross he said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."

Christians support Israel because Jesus is the Root of faith and the Jews are the group He is racially through. Furthermore God made the promise that the land belongs to the Jews. Those of God agree with God that the Jews should have all of Israel.

1. It was the religious PHARISEES who condemned Jesus, not the Jews. Jesus Himself was a Jew.
2. The Jews are God's chosen people. God will punish those who He needs to punish, and He will choose those whom He chooses.
3. God blesses those who bless Israel, and curses those who curse her.
4. There will come a time when Israel will accept the Messiah, but not until Jesus Himself returns for her.
5. I LOVE the Jewish people. I feel very connected to them through God's word. They will be my brothers and sisters in Christ one day.

We all had a hand in his death, if not directly, indirectly.
BUT,
that support for Israel, began last century, through the doctrinal beliefs and teaching of Israel being God's chosen people, the millennium, the rapture etc. by Moody, Whitfield and others. If it had not been for Moody, the belief might have died. But as it is, we have it and have to deal with it. This is be best I can come to explain to you your question.

some other good responses so far...and perhaps some Christians support Israel because the bible says that Israel must be a nation before Christ can return so by supporting the continued existence of the country of Israel, some Christians think they are helping to bring about the end times???

This question is full of assumptions: (1) that obesity in America is largely the fault of Christians, (2) that obesity is a sign of God s judgment, as is famine elsewhere, (3) that the Bible says its OK to hate our enemies (Jesus said in Luke 6:27 "But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you," The question and many of the comments are little more than a thinly veiled expression of hatred toward Christians and the church. It s not looking for an intelligent answer, but is merely baiting Christians to get into an argument with the questioner.

It isn't the Jewish population of today's fault that MAYBE the Jews 2000 years ago sentenced Jesus to die.
Also, Jesus was a Jew. Without the Jews, Christianity might not even exist.. so Christians must support the Jews at least a little for that.

It is indeed strange that Christians try to sell the vicious cruel, genocidal, jealous deity of the Jews as a God of Love--& that of all the worlds' religions, none reject Jesus as much as Judaism does.Guess it just proves what good salesmen Jews really are!!
