... that accepts the fact that everyone has to have their own beliefs, and nobody is stupid for believing / belonging to a religion / not being religious? I'm tired of insults and i dont understand why people have to be so agressive (is it the fact that we are all annonymous here?) I dont really care what you believe in, and i am sure it fits you and i will never call you names for being different than me. If there are people who think the same way, i'd love to hear their opinions

slo18 i agree with you 100%. that's why i asked this question, i hate it when people do their best to persuade me into their religion. i dont claim my religion to be the best, i just happened to be born like this. for me all religions are the same.

John B, thats another part of what i also believe: it is so less important if you believe in a God or not, as long as you follow some moral rules, live civilised, not harm others, help people who are in need. Is this not the essential anyway? It dosent matter if you believe in "supernatural things" and pray every night before going to sleep, while you do that right

Ga: i somwhat agree, i think religions are a good way of manipulating people. I do believe in a higher force what so ever, i'm pretty sure we dont know much about it and no religion that exists has any clue, yet i think it is everyone's right to believe otherwise. There's just one thing i'm sure of: one day i will die and find out, and i'm not really looking forward to it

I have a hard time with not thinking that a number of people here aren't idiots. The fact that people in this day and age could possible believe that the earth is only 6,000 years old, that everything in the bible is true...not to mention the super crazies on here with Satan doing this and that and the rapture b.s....
There are about four people on here who continously scare me...and I truly think they are ignorant, close-minded fools who could be dangerous if it came into their heads that their "god" wanted them to do something drastic.

Try the Unitarians or Bahai, acceptance of other people's beliefs are sort of central tenets with those two groups.

Personally, I think that as long as there are religious people that are trying to write their religious beliefs into the laws of countries, those religions should be denounced and shown to be false.

If people don't try to force their beliefs on others, then I see no reason to criticize them. But when the religious right is trying to force creationism to be taught in schools, or doing some other inane thing, then they have put their religion up for target practice.

Here's what works for me.

Humanism is a philosophy of life inspired by humanity and guided by reason. It provides the basis for a fulfilling and ethical life without religion.

Humanists make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values.
Humanists see no convincing evidence for gods, the supernatural, or life after death.
Humanists believe that moral values are properly founded on human empathy and scientific understanding.
Humanists believe we must live this life on the basis that it is the only life we'll have -- that, therefore, we must make the most of it for ourselves, each other, and our world.
Humanist philosophies have arisen separately in many different cultures over many thousands of years. Whether or not they use the term humanism, tens of millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of people around the world agree with the humanist philosophy of living a happy and productive life based on reason and compassion.

Conceptual thought seems to be one of the signature traits of the human race. Freedom of thought is possible everywhere, but freedom of speech is not. We are judgemental, which is not entirely bad, and we also want to be loved, which is natural. Knowing that most people will keep quiet in order to be accepted, most will knuckle under when dictated to by true believers who claim that somehow they have been given the only true doctrine/dogma. Once they are entering the flock of that leader, he must pit them against the outsiders. Group cohesion is more easily obtained by hating the same "enemy" than by loving the same truth. In one sense then, I tell you that no strongly cohesive group is able to fully accept the beliefs of others who contest the chosen dogma.

I dont care what people beleive, my anger is directed at thos who force there ideas on others or think that they are the only ones who are right. for me its not just online, if I am in an enviroment where i wont lose my job for saying what i think I will express my anger at people who try to convert me, or tell me my way is the wrong way because it isnt there way. I feel that I have to defend myself from these people and the best defense is a good offense

I feel the same way. Religion is just an idea. No one should say that anothers religion is worse than another. Some people say unicorns are real, I'm not going to tell them they're wrong, just that I find no proof of them.

I'm not quite as great as you are asking. But I really do believe that everyone is entitled to their beliefs and no one should try to change them. I'm atheist/agnostic and I think that religious people are blinded, but it's not my job to convert them, they will figure it out for themselves, or else they will just believe what they want to believe.

However, I must add, that if someone posts a question on here that I answer, they are getting my true answer, even if they didn't ask for it.

My philosophy is everyone is entitled to an opinion no matter how stupid it is.
People can believe anything they want but I will challenge them any chance I get if their belief are having a direct effect on my life. And Christian beliefs certainly are.

The consequences of organize religions in our societies and throughout history shows how vulnerable people are to irrational philosophies, corrupt religious leathers, and dangerous superstitions.

And we should not be concerned? And get along?

Not me. All people have a right to complain about those who cause pain and suffering in their lives. Religion legitimizes ignorance, tyranny, and oppression. Those who are able will resist by every means available until we have finally and forever expunged this evil from human civilization.
