Police: Fake Cop Targets Immigrants

POSTED: 3:27 pm CDT August 8, 2007

HOUSTON -- A man was arrested, accused of impersonating a police officer and pocketing thousands of dollars from unsuspecting illegal immigrants, officials told KPRC Local 2 Wednesday.

Jose Luis Montes Jr., 24, was apprehended on Aug. 2 and charged with impersonating a police officer, felony theft and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Investigators said Montes targeted immigrants who were presumed to be in the United States illegally. He wore a badge, gun and bulletproof vest when he approached them and offered to get their immigration documents processed for a fee, according to authorities.

The victims paid between $10,000 and $30,000, police said.

Investigators want other potential victims to come forward.

Montes is Hispanic, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has short black hair, a mustache and goatee, and has a scar on his left eyebrow.

well his name according to ur source is : Jose Luis Montes Jr., and about this all i have to say is that people don't release than most undocumented would do so much just to have the opportunity to come out of the shadows .

it is not easy to live that way and before we pass our judgment to them we should take just a sec to think about what we would do to be in the USA if were in the same situation , how would we be treated and whether or not we would even be given the chance to come the so called "right way" if we were .

i would like to add that we must learn to be grateful for all they do for us so that we never have to be in the same situation to be able to understand them . i mean what and who would we turn to if we denied others the opportunity which we all have today just because we were born in the USA . we should not forget either than we didn't have to do anything to be citizens of this great nation , this nation , the USA , which should remain an opportunity to all as is has been for so long .

note : they probably barrow the money as one naturally would think and i also agree in not way they did deserve any of this happening to them .

note 2 : well i just wanted to point out that it really doesn't matter if he was blue , yellow or anything anyone may want to think he was just because he was Hispanic . perhaps the same people who may want other to read the article may want to read it themselves and then tell where is it than it says he was an undocumented . having said this what really matters is that every day the undocumented are victims of crimes not only from individuals such as this one but from people who want to abuse and which exist in every single race in the planet .

Your funny, we just want them gone.
It would take a real lowlife who sees a profit from them to do this.
The only people who see profit potential from them and are also lowlifes are the pro-illegals.
So the question should read; "OK, which Pro-illegal was it?"

EDIT: Aguilas13, are you trying to tell us that after all our complaining about them disregarding the laws and being told we are wrong, the law doesn't apply to them; that now suddenly we should feel bad when someone breaks the law and harms them. HAHAHA, they don't want the laws they don't like to apply to them, then we don't want the laws to protect them either. I personally don't see that the guy did anything wrong to them. He was offering to help them bypass the system and get their documents processed faster than by doing it correctly, which anyone would know is illegal.
So, they were ripped off trying to break the law once again; of course it is funny and we don't feel bad.
Grow up and be realistic.
