I agree, the 'no accent' accent sounds best to me. It's funny to say, because there are very many accents in America that are a blast to listen to: Maine, Boston, New Orleans, Atlanta, North Dakota, (guess I've had enough of Texas ;-)), Oklahoma, New York, New Jersey, SoCal, NoCal and many more...

although the 'Cals' are closest to no accent, in my opinion.

And yeah, West Coast.

The best American accent is no accent at all. Just about any other American accent can mark you as a snooty person from Boston or poor trash from the south.

When I lived in England I developed a "Mid-Atlantic" accent and used it in England and elsewhere in Europe. I can speak a number of languages but, when in America, I strive to use an accent free speech... and I have never had anyone guess that I was born and raised in Missouri

i prefer the 'non-accent' radio announcers accent, which is a hybrid between mid-atlantic and mid-west.

i'm from long island, new york, don't sound like 'the nanny', but then, i had speech lessons for 8 years, to correct a lisp and stuttering/stammering.

i think it's cool that i can generally not give away my origins. plus, i can copy most accents after being around them for a half hour.

I like standard American English as spoken by most newscasters.
Its simple, clear, and can be understood by any American anywhere.
I was born in Brooklyn, NY, and I don't sound like Fran Fine, on The Nanny. Shes from Queens.
