central park is ok, mc carren in broolyn is better, union square park is the most interesting (and very nice to sit in if the grass is open that day)

go to the met, moma (kind of $ for admission but sooo worth it if you like modern art. admission is free on fridays after 5!), museum of natural history- air conditioning!

avoid the subway as much as possible- many stations are far from being airconditioned and you can't imagine such heat!

The Cloisters on the upper West Side is a must see. Weather wise, most likely it will be humid and sticky. As far as Central Park, visit the zoo afterward find shady trees.

The first answerer is right, in a way. The Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Gardens (across the street) are beautiful places to be--not to mention landmarks--and huge.

August can be very hot and humid, but some days it may rain, or remain cloudy most of the day. There's plenty of shade in Central Park--and also in the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

I'm not going to lie, it can be hot and humid. But, if you travel light with good walking shoes, you'll be distracted by all that you see in the park. Plus, there is always someplace to get ice cream or something. I don't know what you are interested in or how old you might be, but if you check out central park's Web site, I'm sure something will catch your eye.

If you like art, the Cloisters is a good place to be.
