A 5:40 is very good. A 4:00 is world class. There is no way of knowing if you will get that good, but you might! Keep running.

Wow--you are doing awesome! You are probably impatient, but just keep working at it. As you get into your teen years--particularly your middle and late teens, you will get stronger and faster. Keep working on building up your endurance, so you can run more than a mile. The endurance will give you the physical and mental strength. Work on your speed skills, too. If you can jump in some shorter races: 5K and less, but only once in a while.
At your age, you will probably start a growth spurt in a couple of years, so be attentive to stretching before and after running, and sometimes mix it up with some bike riding or swimming to keep you strong and injury free!
Keep up the running--sounds like you have a lot of natural talent!

Yeah! I was a good track runner and I did not get down to 5:40 until I was 13. Start building upper leg strength with lifts such as squats, leg extensions, and leg curls which you can do at a nearby YMCA. Also learn how to run miles according to your skills such as starting off fast and ending at a slower pace or start at a medium sppeed and end with a sprint on your last 200 meters.

Yes! 5:40 is an EXTREMELY fast time for your age! It's even above the Presidential award requirement for a 17-18 year old! You have a chance if you keep working hard!

thats incredible, i'm 12 1/2 running for 1 month and i cant get past 7:40 for 7/10 of a mile! be proud of yourself, dude!
i'm sure you could, but dont pressure yourself. You might hurt yourself.
stretch a lot before and after running. Stretching is great! And, i dunno, maybe run a different route. you may be slowing down because your like 'this route is BORING' since your ran it many times. thats what i did:)
dont hurt yourself, and good luck, dude!

jeez louise 5:40 is super fast for an 11 year old! remember to take it easy though. i know a lot of people who were good runners when they were young and totally burnt out by high school (which isn't good). so keep running, but don't do it excessively. you're young. you don't want to hurt yourself and be done for good.

GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
running is ssssoooooo much fun!!it is one of my hobbies.if you try,you can get it down-maybe.trust me,it is hard to top a sore like that.i ran the mile in 5:something.(dont remember what).and it is hard work!just remember to stretch before and after ward.and after you run in,dont stop!!!!walk around a bit.especially DO NOT LIE DOWN!!!!!!!(you could barf).so yeah.just some advice.it may get harder as you get older to top that score.usualy most people can run their fastest around 14 years old.after that,as they mature,it can get harder to run faster.so-if you keep running, you may be able to stay fast and fit!!!i luv running!!!keep it up!

That is an excellent time for your age. You may well reach your goal as you mature and your body gets stronger.
