Hi. I am in jrotc (marine). I am in color guard. This is my first time doing any of this because now I am in 9th grade (freshmen). But I wanted my mom or someone else to take a few pictures of me while I am doing the color guard on the football field during my high schools game. The band will be playing the national anthem, and I wondered if it was rude to take picture during the anthem. If it is I will tell my mom or who ever to not take any.

Thanks for and help/info you can give me.

Hey there. Having performed a couple thousand military funeral services where the flag is folded for presentation to the family, I believe I can speak on this subject fairly accurately.

I have been asked hundreds of time whether photos could be taken as the honor guard performed the flag folding portion of our service and during a few thousand events in cities and local organizations where the National Anthem was being played. In many instances the photos were used to send back to family and friends unable to attend. In each case I granted that permission. Although, yes you should be at attention or hand over heat during the National Anthem, I took the stance that those taking photos were, too, honoring our flag and anthem. They took the photos to record a moment of honor when people were acknowleging this great country.

Yes, by all means ask Mom to take some photos. And, tell here thanks for honoring you and America in doing so. Finally, thank you for serving in the jrotc. The type of concern and attitude you displayed here will make you do some great things in your life. I hope it will be serving America. God Bless you and the United States of America.

That's awesome!! And you should be proud of yourself!
As long as mom is not being obnoxious about the pictures and just takes them from where she stands, I think it would be ok.
Actually, with the timing of things, she may be able to get some good ones before and after and not have to take any during. Go through the motions and commands with her and see if you can figure out a good time for her to take pics.
Enjoy!

Nah, it's fine every once in a while. Newspapers love getting pictures of baseball players during the anthem- they show that all the time. One or two for the scrapbook won't disparage the nation.

Have her get a tripod and a digital video recorder and set it up just before the National Anthem, and maybe you can get some stills from it afterwards:)

"Lavadog", if he actually is a marine, is forgetting what he fought for.

Tell her to take the pictures. We're proud of you.
