"It's better to burn out than fade away."

It means you should make the most out of life, grasp the moment and live everyday as if it's your last, and don't waste the time you have.

Well, it's not THE MOST inspirational that I've heard but... "Shoot for the moon, even if you fail you'll land among the stars." The source that I found was Les Brown. However, so many times the quote's author is listed as an unknown.

"work harder for 5 years than most will and you can live better the rest of your life"

That is so true anyone who will work hard saving money, studying in school, working two jobs, really doing the nearly impossible for just 5 years can live so much better than average for the rest of their life.
Think about the young people who work from 18-23 finish college buy a house, keep out of debt and at 23 they may be tired but not in debt, well educated and homeowners. Friends may have skipped school or got into debt and never catch up.
A girl I know is 19 now, she has her 5 year, 10 year and 15 year plans. She has already met her 5 year goals, she will finish college at 20 since she took college classes and advance placement classes in high school.
For her working her tail off from 15-20 will get her a college education at 20 while still living with her parents so no debts she will be 2-3 years ahead of kids who only did what needed done. Her little brother is 16 and finished with high school because he skipped grades but he doesn't know what he wants to take in college and thinks maybe he will take some time before he starts. Think where he could be at 25 if he knuckled down got great grades, stuck to one subject and stays out of debt instead of taking time off.

Life's a b*tch and then you die.
Nah, just kidding.
I like "you can take a person out of a country, but you can never take the country out of a person."
I like it because I'm originally from Germany and now living in the US. I've lived here for a long time, but there's always a little bit of Germany in a corner of my heart and there's nothing wrong with that!

"Hard work makes good luck." ~~ Thomas Jefferson

also...

"Show up. Pay attention. Tell your truth. Detach from the outcome." ~~attributed to many people over the years from Buddhists to a Jesuit priest. When I was told it, the woman said it came from a Jesuit priest. I have repeated it so many times to people that one friend had it embroidered on two pillows: one for each of us.

It doesn't work to leap a twenty-foot chasm in two ten-foot jumps

The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.

“In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade-unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade-unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up.”
