Unless that 'something' you were going to stop was torturing and killing people, I think you're fine. The whole point of christianity, and most religions, is to give you reasons to feel guilty so that you keep going back to your religious leaders for guidance.

I broke a few promises to him myself...but the lord is a forgiving God I'm sure it will take a lot more than that for you to be sent to "hell".When you're forgiven maybe then you should desist from doing that "something".Good luck :).And uh don't worry about silly people who thinks the doctor or the medicine stopped the pain.God sometimes work through others.

If you are a true believer in Jesus Christ then no! If you are not, no deal will reverse the biblical consequences of rejecting Christ...Hell!

The problem here is that God does not make deals with humans like this. That would be in total opposite of what the bible says about how God deals with humans.

The other issue is that God has a forordained will that is unchangeable. He makes no deal with mankind. We are to follow His will and pray that it be done. God does provide for prayer to be a part of the means to accomplish His will but any kind of deal would not be up for grabs.

I believe that God did indeed ordain modern medicine to help us in time of medical and physical need. If the pain is controlled then God used the doctor as His agent to help you.

I would urge you to read His word and become more well aquainted with how He works and operates with His people. If you are a christian this is not the way He wants us to behave in dealing with Him. I think that if you are convicted that you did wrong it is in the area of being ill-informed as to how God deals with humans. That means that you are not reading the bible enough, studying it, ingesting it to, walk as a christian is to walk. There never was a deal and God did not take that into consideration as He provided for your pain relief.

I try to be a compassionate person and be understanding and accepting of the beliefs of everyone. However, as an atheist, I must answer this question from my heart. I do not want to offend or cause you more stress along with your pain.

You are worrying needlessly about hell. There is no such place and you dont need stress, guilt, and fear on top of the pain that you are having.

You have started in the right direction by seeking medical treatment for your back pain. Think of your brain as your higher power. You have already used it to go to the doctor and get medicine. Continue using it and look for more information about your back pain. Ask other people who have had back pain or injuries for their stories. You will find that they can share information with you that may help you.

I am sending good thoughts your way.

Think about it.
You made a promise to God to heal your backache.
The doc gave you medicine and it relieved the pain.
God knew way before you were going to make this promise that you wouldn't be able to keep but provided the "help".
What does that show you? That He knows you were sincere in your promise but knows the human flaws in trying to keep the promise and sent the help. He truly loves you.

Show me any person who says they have not broken a promise made to God and I will show you a liar. No, you don't go to hell by breaking a promise to God. You go to Hell by not recognizing who He is and believing in His Son.

During Hurricane Katrina, which I lived through, there were jokes told about the man who was riding out the flood on the top of his house. A local guy came by in a boat and asked if he could help. The man said, no God will help me. The coast guard came by and tried to help, but the man refused, saying God will help me, y'all go help someone else. The local boy scouts came by in a boat and offered assistance, but he refused again.

During the night, he fell asleep and rolled off into the water and drowned. When he got to Heaven, he asked God, why God had not taken care of him, and God said, I sent three groups to help you and you refused them all.

God sent the doctor to you and you got well. Praise God.
Guilt is not a bad thing, if it brings us closer to God.

If you believe and have accepted Christ, then you have a guarantee that you are going to heaven. However God does record the things we do, so make sure you ask for forgiveness.

You should not make deals with God in the first place. Good news is, if you're born again, you still go to heaven.
