I have a 4 year old yorkie.
Well, my dog won't eat her dry food. we even tred to give her some human food (a banana) but she sniffed it, and rejected it. we were so desperate that we gave her some expired wet dog food (it expired in Feb. of 07'), she ate it though. What's wrong with my dog?!?!?!?

Dogs aren't dumb. Mine try that from time to time, thinking we'll cook them an egg to throw in with their dry dog food. They just get bored eating the dry all the time and are trying to psych you into giving them something different. If you don't cave in, the dog will eat when she gets hungry enough.

My dog did the same. She was an inside dog for 6 1/2 years then my parents put her outside and she quit eating. So they gave her wet/dry food mixed and she ate it. Well then when I got married and moved out I just gave her dry food and she wouldn't eat it. I left it sit for 3 days before she finally gave in and ate it. She got spoiled at my mom and dads on wet/dry food, but now she eats dry food without a problem. But where she's getting old if I give her a treat I have to break it into 3 small pieces so she can eat it. Try mixing wet and dry food for a few days, if she eats it you might be able to ween her off of wet/dry food to dry food.

If you are the kind of Dog owner that would keep and offer Dog Food that is 6 months beyond expiration when the shelf life of any dog food is of a span that no one should ever have to run into even coming close to it expiring, I would initially say that the answer to your question of what is wrong with your dog??.............. is......"YOU"!!
They have expiration dates on Dog Food for a reason. I hope you grasp the concept that this is for Safety reasons, and, then you post "Help! My dog won't eat!!!!?" I imagine that your dog may have eaten some of this food also prior.
It is DEEPLY TROUBLING to read what you posted, and, to think that the possibility exists that the very dogfood that you said has expired may very well be one of the many brands that was recalled and had sickened and killed many dogs and cats. You are aware and did hear that there was mass recalls didn't you? Possibly even the dry food you gave her possibly is one of the recalled foods also?!?!? I don't think you would know if you allow expired dogfood to even be presented to your dog as even a choice when it appears clear she is probably not feeling well and you may have been the cause of this.
I almost find your question hard to believe as being true. I sit here and can't believe that someone can be this negligent and irresponsible when I am being truly honest when I say that I believe that if what you shared is factually true, ........you are actually a detriment and an active threat and main catalyst to your dog's current sad situation.
I would hope this be a sick joke than to believe that this is true. But, either way, you are correct on one sobering point,.......in that you do need "help".
You don't share how long it has been since your dog has otherwise eaten yet, you say she ate some of the expired dogfood. So, the reality is, she will eat......and, she did eat.
A dog will NOT starve themselves as a rule. However; seeing that you took the time to humiliate yourself by not only sharing that you gave your dog food that has been expired and used "( " - ")" to make sure you brought attention to this date, I'm going to stick with my gut feeling here that you posted this question to get the very type of responses you are getting and for "Shock & Awe" to create a level of outrage.
Shame on you for doing this. If you were truly caring and concerned for your dog, you would have asked the community if any of us would recommend you giving your dog expired dog food, and, you clearly should or would have some common sense on this besides the fact that no one should ever try to force feed or push a dog to eat regardless if they are not feeling well, or merely not hungry.
Absent of some other traits of a well intentioned dog owner, coupled with the fact that you failed to ask some otherwise truly worry oriented questions, my final conclusion is that you are either an abusive/negligent dog owner and wanted to almost brag about your otherwise poor treatment of this poor dog, or, you are troubled and sought to post a scenario that many responsible dog owners that frequent this venue would appropriately be outraged. Congratulations! Misery Accomplished!
FYI - In many jurisdictions of Animal Welfare and/or Humane Society Shelters, etc. concerning what you shared would most likely be seen as a rather serious punitive act on your part, and you could face arrest, fine, or other level of punishment if what you shared is in fact true and was found out and reported/investigated.

She is most likely spoiled. You need to put her on a feeding schedule. depending on how much she weighs give her 2 % of her body weight in food daily, and cut it in half, give her half in the morning and put it down for 30 minutes, and pick up what's left over, even if she didn't touch it, then give her half that night around 7 or 8 or so and pick it up after 30 minutes. She will eat when she is hungry. NEVER give your dog expired dog food, she will eat when she is ready. Good luck! IF you worry too much about it, call the vet.

She might just be interested in wet food because she can not digest dry food well. My brother had the same problem he took his dog to the vet and they said his dog could not digest dry food very well. So he was put on a diet of wet food only. I recommend you take the dog to the vet just to be safe. Or she might be spoiled if that is the case it will be hard to brake a female out of that.

Maybe nothing - but I would take her to the vet to make sure. Not eating can be a sign of something serious. Then again, it can mean that your dog just ate something off. Our bulldog suddenly stopped eating for a day, and had bad diarrhea. We took him to the vet, and they had us give him very bland food which he scarfed down. They never could tell us exactly what was wrong with him, but better safe than sorry.

She wont eat the banana because it something strange. Take her to the vet to make sure. Maybe the heat is affecting her. Or it may be nothing it took my dog a little while to go from wet to dry food. Plus talk to your vet about changing her food. WE have change foods 3 times before we found something our dogs love. Take her to vet and see
i hope she is okay
BE BLESS

i've been having the same problem w/ my dog. she turns her nose up @ dry food, dry food mixed w/ cooked eggs, dry food mixed w/ rice w/ broth. everyone keeps telling me it's b/c it's been SO hot out. She'll eat late evening (like round 8:30 or 9), but hasn't been eating breakfast. my vet said as long as she's drinking water & eat a bit (at least one time a day) she should be ok. if not water ... GET TO THE VET.
Good Luck.
i know you are worried, but just give her some time to see if it is the heat/weather. watch for the water intake!! = )

number one, expiration dates are only a reference to go by... food manufacturers only put those on all food to cover their hides in case someone/thing gets sick!! so I'm sure your dog is fine having eaten it!!!
secondly, how long has she been on her same dog food? maybe you just need to change it up a bit? slowly, of course!! mix her old food half and half with the new.
if you don't want to change her food, simply add some broth or milk--what ever is liquid leftovers from your food. it won't spoil her, its not like you're giving her straight human food, for Heaven's sake!!
also, just a little side note, and most importantly... don't giv her ANY treats during the day. that way she is good and hungry at her meal times!
hope this helps!! good luck!

Take your dog to the vet if she has shopped eating. Dont give your dog expired food, its August and you still giving the dog food from Feb.
Rather be safe than sorry, take the dog to the vet and get a professional opinion, I have a yorkie too, if I see anything strange, she goes to the vet, I dont wait and ask questions.
