Historically, Fundamentalism was a response to the publication of Darwin's "Origin of Species" and arose out of the distribution of a series of pamphlets called "The Fundamentals" which insisted on the accuracy of Scripture as opposed to the ideas expressed in Darwin's work.
Despite the passing of long years since "Origin's" publication, many people still find it difficult to grapple with the notion that humans aren't some special, set-apart creatures that have nothing to do with biology. They like to think that they will somehow miraculously live forever in a blissful state, surrounded by beauty and harmony. The idea of death, and the anihilation of the personality that must inevitably follow, is one which fills them with horror and revulsion, so they cling desperately to a fiction.

Sorry, there was only one person who responded with any disrespect to that question. And that person insults everybody. Also, I don't think that the questioner had a "disbelief in evolution." Quite the opposite, in fact. What he was wondering about were the misquotes, straw men, and outright falsehoods about evolution that regularly appear on the internet - in particular, those here on R&S. Most of which come from the actual "disbelievers in evolution." These people didn't get that way because science is difficult, or they weren't enthusiastic about it. They got that way because they were indoctrinated, before they ever got to a science class, to believe that everything they were about to hear supporting the subject was a lie, spread by atheists and other evil people. No amount of attention by science teachers will change that. Only directly confronting the indoctrination, and exposing its lies, will have any effect. And pre-college science teachers just aren't set up to do that. Not to mention the fact that any direct confrontation by public school teachers would necessarily attack religions beliefs. Which would run afoul of the First Amendment.

why waste your precious life wondering or worrying about who thinks what or argues over anything.
Love life and live to love and refuse all negativity in your life. Even if you don't believe if God , positive lifestyles make your life much, much better and it's infectious......try it out. Worry not what the neighbors are fighting over. Who really cares what todays theory is, it will surely change tomorrow! Why waste you time trying to crucify a book? I will only keep passing positive information to my fellow humans in a valiant focus of positive power to help them.

The logic is that if the Biblical account of creation isn't how it happened, then they can't trust the rest of the Bible.
It doesn't allow for the idea that the story might be a way of showing us who we are more so than how we got here.

The problem is that the sciences related to evolution disprove the literal reading of page 1 of the Bible. It shoots apart all doctrines about the Bible being absolutely true. As a result, they muster every deception, slander, and lie available in the name of their "truth".

If you want to believe that you came cawing out of the swamp and "evolved" into man - go ahead! I would much rather believe that I am God made - I came from Him, and when I die, I will go back to Him. Will you crawl back to the swamp and de-evolve?
