Your best source of information for a young child stuttering is The Stuttering Foundation at www.stutterhelp.org. They have a risk factors chart that tells you if and when a child needs to see a specialist in stuttering. They give parents tips of things they can do at home to help. They have brochures to give to others that tell them how to react to someone who is stuttering (download them free from the web site). Check your public library to see if they have the Foundation's books "If Your Child Stutters: A Guide for Parents." You can call a toll free hotline to talk to someone, too.

I had some preschoolers and even first graders who stuttered because their thought processing was going faster than they could talk. There were no speech pathologists or special education for any of the children that I had. Just remind your child to slow down when she talks if she overly excited.

Whatever you do, don't try to finish her sentences or words for her if she is having any trouble spitting them out. Keep eye contact and smile and nod as if nothing is wrong for as long as you can each time -- you'll communicate the message that it's OK for your child to express herself and that you want to hear what she has to say no matter how long it takes her to say it. Tell her when she gets frustrated that you understand how tough it is to say things when you're just learning words. And find times when she says things well when you can compliment her on how well she is speaking.

Fairly common hun. They're brains get going so fast and talking still takes an effort to think it out. Just be patient and tell her to slow down. Don't make fun of it or criticize.

Ignore it. If you make a big deal, the attention will make her do it for that. If she's just trying to get words out and you rush her, she may feel pressured and do it more. She'll be fine. It's just a little hiccup. Ignore it. Really, Mom.

Maybe she is just getting excited and cant get the words out.More than likely she will grow out of it.Try not worry about it I know that is a lot easier said than done just ask her to slow down when she does it.

It's normal. Just get her to slow down and take a breath before talking to give her time to organise her thoughts.
